I was on about the (approximate) additional height, not the cost I realised that.

Took the car for its service/MOT with Mark Middleton in Upton today. Although the raised causeway was closed briefly earlier in the week, I have to say it was doing its job today and it is likely that the road would have been closed all week if the work had not been done.
Had a wry smile when I saw the advertising board for this year’s ‘Sunshine Festival’ poking through several feet of water - appropriately this year’s headline act is Wet Wet Wet!!

Yes thanks Graham.
Usual great service from Mark. Lucky his workshop is on higher ground, the farmhouse nearby had three pumps going to keep the water out.

Unlike lots of other towns along the Severn, Worcester was built throughout the centuries by people who realised that there was a river running through the middle of it. It tends to flood several times a year, and apart for a few pubs and businesses on the river front, the residential population tends to come out of it realitivly unscathed, albeit inconvenienced by the road closures. There were a few house that suffered - the attached photo shows a little cottage on the right hand side which was where my great grandparents lived. He was the boilerman for one of the steam launches (probably the one in the picture - it was called 'Belle'). For those than know Worcester, it's now an outside seating area for Browns restaurant... ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2020/02/29/south-quay.jpg)
