just remember to not wear a tie whilst using the lathe Or any loose clothing. For a first attempt that is an excellent job👍👍

From the dim and very distant past I have memories of being told that twin tube fluorescent fittings were used above lathes to avoid the possible stroboscopic effect , a risk was that if one tube failed could create the appearance that the chuck was stationary. Nice work Calum, I would not know where to start.

I did something similar a few years back and bought a combined lathe and mill (only a Clarke, but reasonable quality and small and light enough to fit in my shed). Hours of endless fun creating swarf, but has proved invaluable at producing washers and spacers for my various collection of bikes Haven't bothered with cutting threads - by the time I'd set all the gears up properly, I could have run a die down it. However I am tempted by a bit of knurling now!

Along with my trusty Myford, which I don't use anything like as much as I'd prefer, I also have one of those dinky liitle Peatol/Taig milling machines, which also gets little use. But when you do need them, they are fantastic. I made the wheel balancing cones on the lathe and my brake light brackets on the mill, along with loads of other brackets, spacers, strange bolts and such. Because all the threads I ever seem to need to cut are in conventional sizes I tend to use Dies, but I have done some on the lathe. Got myself a 1950 Colchester lathe off an old Morgan racer last year, and like you I moved it by myself from the trailer to my garage. I’ve never moved anything as heavy in my life. My engine crane and a very sturdy trolley showed their true value
I’ve not got round to switching it on in anger yet, but I’m looking forward to making some very expensive washers 😂
