Hi all, i have re-read this thread and i am still wondering if drilling out the first baffle totally or just making a small enlargement to it is the way to go.
On the EU4 cars, mine. There are two cats, one after the cylinder head and two more conventionally placed.

From all that has been said, drilling out the first baffle makes a big difference to power, noise and performance.
Some of you have used different size cutters to remove this baffle.

Whats the consensus on which is best. 38mm, 44mm or something in between.
I like Highnoons Magnaflow setup, but as i am no welder i would have to get the work done.

In the UK i have spoken to Demand Engineering, and they will make me a custom design exhaust to my design for 1600 pounds(sorry none standard keyboard).

The first baffle will give you 90% of the improved sound/performance. You need a 38mm hole saw (a quality one) and a 30cm+ extension.

"First baffle", is that first from the front of the car or first from the rear?

The first baffle is from the front and as Kankel says makes the world of difference, then if you remove the rear baffle and add a free flow air filter you effectively have a stage 1 system.

Thanks Britmog.

I just went out and looked into the tail end of my Stage 1 pipes and there is a baffle in there.

The OEM exhaust has 3 baffles, I have removed the first and last baffle but kept the larger center baffle in place which has 8 holes in it. After this seasons driving I might consider removing the center baffle.

The Stage 1 pipes have a long cone shaped baffle in them with multiple perforations through the wall of the cone so no where near as restrictive as the standard pipes but rather noisier. G56 pipes are more classically straight through with perforations into the absorption part of the silencer. They are fairly big and bulky in order to get the noise down to a decent level. The original sports pipes from MMC were really quite loud though allegations of passing Spitfire pilots not being able to hear their engines over the racket were slightly exaggerated, but only slightly.

Yeah, my Stage 1 are very loud and I suspect someday I will be asked by the authorities to quiet it down.

Is the heat shield larger in diameter on the G56 system?
