It is a bit bigger and longer too as it has a much bigger silencer to cover.

I agree & the exhaust headers dont glow so much in the dark with front baffle drilled.

I understand that this is an older post. I read every comment that pertained to the muffler modification. Help me out here. The last comments were to remove the front baffle to get the best performance/sound. With that being said are you removing the first baffle in addition to the cat? I am really only trying to get better exhaust flow to remove the heat and let the engine breath. I have ridden Harleys for so long and one of the best ways to cool them off and make them perform is to fix the exhaust as the first critical step.

Hogzilla hi, there has been a lot of talk about this both now and in the past.
Removal of the first baffle is the way forward.
The (pardon the pun) fat cat closest to the silencer, i think i`m right in saying it is a racing cat. So unless it breaks up there is really no benefit in removing it.

You will, for the front baffle need 2 x 12" extensions. Depending on how much noise you want, anywhere between 32mm and 38mm hole cutter.
Bi-metal hole saws may not be the best for cutting stainless steel.
Hole saw
Made in China, probably cheap so i bought 2.

Use a drill speed in the range 175-300 Rpm with cutting oil or similar.

Noise certainly is an issue. And then the ever present Check Engine Light. Black tape is required for that thing.

Removal of the cat has no impact on the check engine light, in my experience. One of my cats was breaking loose from the pipe and making a substantial buzzing/rattle sound, so both were removed. There is definitely more noise without the cats. At the time I was running the MMC stage 1 exhaust.
