Well! All this CX talk and various replies on many threads seem to have provoked a bit of thought about swapping your current 'Trad' model, for a CX.

I can certainly see the many pulls to do so, but am curious if there is an underlying common reason as to why?

The main reasons I can think of are;

1: The chassis is stiffer, therefore safer and also gives a much better platform for better handling
2: The double wishbone suspension set-up is much better and will give better handling
3: The interior space is bigger and perhaps more comfortable
4: The CX cars have much more power and probably more efficient

Given both the Trad and the CX 'look' almost the same, are 'we' all actually saying 'I really don't like the way my Morgan drives and want the much 'nicer' driving experience'?

If I could add a 'Poll' here (can I?), it would be 'Would you part-ex your Trad for a CX'?

My answer to that would be 'No'... I bought my Trad 4/4 for everything it is... including the 'link' to a chassis design, ride and handling that is 80 years old. To me, that is a huge part of the Morgan DNA.

But... my wife may buy one that I would also then drive!!

If I would like a modern sports car, I‘ll get a Porker or something similar

Can't say until I've had a test drive. I enjoy the bond that's developed between me and my Plus 4 and I've had many great drives. Probably best to avoid a test drive!

No. But for emotional and financial reasons.

However, if my lottery numbers came up, I would probably buy one.

If I were in the market for my first Morgan, I’d certainly buy the CX, it’s a far better car, but like you Pete, I really don’t want to part with my 4/4.

Never say never, but at the moment I wouldn’t swap. I love my 24 year old Plus 8 because it’s an old style car that drives like and old car. It’s very different to my daily drive Mercedes and that’s the appeal, having said that I’ve upgraded the suspension to SSL front and rear, upgraded to a sports exhaust and generally spent 12 years tinkering to get it how I like it.
If I want to drive a modern sports car I use SWMBO’s Porker (but even that’s not that modern at 16 years old!).

No ....for similar reasons to the above ....got a crossflow morgan specifically because it's an old car ....no electronics, nothing fancy, just bare-bones basic motoring.....if I wanted what the CX offered there's plenty of alternatives (other than that particular lovely shape) ....and for me that's way too much cash for a toy....I'm sure the CX will sell well and the 'rough-it' demographic is a shrinking one, so good luck to them... just not for me.

The only way Id buy a Plus Four is if I won the lottery in which case I wouldn't need to P/X my 4/4 and I would probably have both cars.

I dont think we need to worry about the market being 'flooded' with Trad Part Exchanges as the new Plus Four wont appeal to many Trad owners who prefer the old car feel and the £20K price hike and modern feel has put the Plus Four in another market sector for many Morgan owners.

This. I wouldn't get rid of my 4/4 for the CX or any other modern car.
