Nice dry morning hood is off....

Has anyone got any good tips/hints or ideas for how I can fold a 1970s 4 seat hood without creasing the side windows,

I'm have tempted to have a zip out rear window fitted just to make the job easier!

Cheers

Phil

I have a tame trimmer - ex Aston Martin so very good. Just wondered if there was a special way of folding that I'm not aware of.

Never had a problem in window friendly folding. But I have to admit that I donˋt carry the rear seats;)
What is your desired package size?

You have side windows in your hood? My car now has a Simmonds easy-up conversion, done many years ago, but I remember the struggle to fold the hood when it was a 9-stud pattern. One needed to take care when folding sides-to-middle that the fold was outside the seam at the outer edge of the rear window. But it didn't have rear-threequarter windows, just a monster blind spot between the trailing edge of the rear sidescreen and the corner of the car.

Looking at images online it seems that some hoods did indeed have window panels in the back quarter. Maybe that was another poverty option not taken on my car! I would guess it's possible to make the first folds (folding the side bits into the middle to make the whole thing more rectangular) in such a way that you don't crease either the back window or the side panels, but that they end up on top of each other, and you fold the rest up around them, if you see what i mean. There's got to be somebody on here who has one of these strange beasties and knows how to do it!

Yep, side windows! Dead posh smile

It appears that folding the hood is a black art - or at least, very advanced origami.

I think I may just bite the bullet and get the rear screen 'zipped'. Will certainly make it a lot easier to fold, and to get shopping in and out from the back seats, and, with window out and side screens off, be a bit like a bikini hood.

Hi,
Yes I have the older style hood with the side windows and I do exactly as Oakvillian has said.
I undo all the studs except the ones along the very back and pull the hood over so that it is then laying the over the boot area with the inside facing up.
I then fold the sides into the center, folding between the windows and then gently fold up the hood into a rectangle shape the size or the rear window itself.
Lastly, I unclip the last studs at the back.

To refit, its simply lay the hood on the boot area, reconnect the studs along the back and then unfold it and pull it up over the frame.

Hope that makes sense laugh2
