A few minutes ago I read that in northern Italy all ski resorts will be closed tomorrow. Italy has been hit harder than Germany...so far, but they are much more consistent, which is good.

I’m sure someone has probably mentioned it but I’ve just looked at the figures and the average number of deaths relating to flu a year in the uk is 17,000 !!
Over 28,000 in 2014/15 and lower in recent years due to the vaccine

Doctor's advice about coronavirus:
1. It is pretty large in size (cell is about 400-500nm diameter), so any normal mask (not just the N95 feature) should be able to filter it out. However, when someone who's infected sneezes in front of you, it will take a great 3 meters (about 10 feet) before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.
2. When the virus drops on metal surface, it will live for at least 12 hours. So remember if you come in contact with any metal surface, wash your hands with soap thoroughly.
3. The virus can remain active on fabric for 6-12 hours. Normal laundry detergent should kill the virus. For winter clothing that does not require daily washing, you can put it out under the sun to kill the virus.
About the symptoms of pneumonia caused by Coronavirus:
1. It will first infect the throat, so the throat will have the dry sore throat feeling which will last for 3 to 4 days
2. Then the virus will blend into the nasal fluid and drips into the trachea and enter the lungs, causing pneumonia. This process will take 5 to 6 days. 。
3. With pneumonia, comes high fever and difficulty in breathing. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You will feel like you are drowning in water. It's important to go seek immediate medical attention if you feel like this.
About prevention:
1. The most common way of getting infected is by touching things in public, so you must wash your hands frequently. The virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 mins, but a lot can happen in those 5-10 mins (you can rub your eyes or pick your nose unwittingly).
2. Aside from washing your hands frequently, you can gargle with Betadine Sore Throat Gargle to eliminate or minimize the germs while they are still in your throat (before dripping down to your lungs).
Take extra care and drink plenty of water.

Stewart, of course you're right. But the difference is that for Corona there are no drugs, no vaccines and little knowledge. We cannot predict what may happen next. Remember when the (Spanish) flu was new in 1918, with 50 million victims over two years. I don't want to dramatize it and hope the best for all of us.

I read an article a few years back that one of the biggest threats to humankind is not nuclear war but a virus.
One of these days it'll wipe us out!

I'm not so sure they (want to) exterminate us. I recently watched a report that viruses now make up about 8% of our DNA. They are old strains. They regulate important vegetative controls of our body. As a rule of thumb, the newer a virus, the more dangerous it is for us. The old viruses have cooperated. https://youtu.be/ZviQJhokT0s

I don't understand why people are panic buying toilet paper:..
I thought you were joking but my supermarket yesterday had a completely empty shelf where the toilet paper should have been. Also missing was kitchen roll, I assume bought by people who had been too late for the Andrex. Amongst other things I failed to get were eggs. You can't stockpile eggs so are people eating them to avoid the need for the bogroll? Luckily there was no shortage of wine so I came home with a good supply of Merlot. At least now I've got plenty of corks.

It looks like it's worth avoiding Devon.
And Powick if the news on this morning's BBC H&W is anything to go by! What happened in Powick? I was at a football match in Leicester.
