Since over 2,000 are currently in intensive care there seems to be something wrong with those figures. Some of the heros of our time are those who are working to equip wings of existing hospitals, and in at least one case a new building. as intensive care wards. In the emergency they are cutting through the usual red tape and completeing work in record time. In Milan they are equipping a building that was under construction for 400 intensive care beds to be completed in 10 days time. Respirators are on the way from China.

Just listening to a current affairs program where they are saying that the vast majority of the deaths are people over 70 years old and, of those, most with one or more existing health problems, respiratory, cardiological or other. Puts me right in it at 73 and after my heart attack a couple of years back. They think that many of the younger people who died had problems that they were unaware of. Regardless of this there are quite a few people who seem completely fit and healthy.

They are very concerned about healthy carriers who may apparently have no symptoms at all or nothing worse than an occasional cough or sneeze. For this reason they really want everyone to stay at home unless absolutely necessary. If even a small number think it is ok to go out they could contribute, unknowingly, to the spread of contagion.

Latest news is that we're staying open for children of keyworkers, LAC (Looked After Children) and those with an EHCP (Educational Health Care Plan).

We going to run on a skeleton staff, on a rota basis. The reality will be, interaction with kids whose parents are in a high risk area, 7 days self isolation to see if symptoms develop, then back into school to get exposed again and repeat the process

On the plus side, we've all still got a job, and are all still getting paid (for the moment).

I was thinking I could save us all a fortune.

It's Mexican night here at Casa Panda, so I chopped up some very hot chillis earlier. Despite washing my hands thoroughly afterwards, I just touched my eye with a chilli finger, and it's smarting like hell. Soooo, maybe the public should all be encouraged to chop some chillis when they get up in the morning.

Wen normally cooks our curries and they are very good. She had a cooking course in Kerala a couple of years ago and came back with a suitcase of spices.
However I found a supplier of curry kits called Tastesmiths. They provide all the fresh ingredients and instructions that even I can follow....so I give her a treat by cooking them myself. I soon learnt about the chillies....had to go for a pee halfway through preparation. Even though I’d washed my hands before (and after of course 🙄) it was excruciating 😳

Had to laugh that reminded me of being in Borneo undertaking some little jaunt. We were issued MOD Mosquito Repellent which you applied by hand, of course we had very limited water supplies, painful experience all round

Many years back when my then other half was away working for a few days I cooked up a sort of mince and vegetable stew. I added some small capsicums that I had gathered from a plant in the garden. After putting everything in the saucepan and washing my hands I touched an eye that had an itch. That is how I discovered that they were not capsicums but chilli peppers. After a lot of washing I finally tasted the stew: it was far too hot for the children so we had scrambled eggs on toast. Not wanting to throw it away I boiled it up once a day for the next few days. When my wife returned I told her of the disaster and she said let my try it. Turned out that a bit of maturity and boiling every day had calmed it all down and it turned out to be quite nice.

Another sad day for Italy lets hope they arrest it's relentless progress soon.
