I have one per side on my 4/4 sport - no problems in 10 years with them I think they look good but also are a visual reminder to keep feet clear of the running boards and encourage lifting feet that bit higher - so fewer scuffs. Even if someone does stand on them - and I`ve only come across it a couple of times- it stops the running board being stood on and provides a bit of protection (they would probably have stood on the wing anyway!).

Mmmm. Bit of a mixed bag. Many thanks for the views. I think I’ll sleep on it a while.

+1. Changed fixings to correct length stainless and wax oiled thoroughly above and below before re-fitting, No doubt they have saved scuffs on drivers side.

ETA: original cad plated overlong screw's covered in underseal makes them a pig to remove but the operation could now be completed in a fraction of the time.

Would some kind sole with a long door 4/4 that has factory fitted wing treads (singles) do me a small favour please.
Now this favour is works on the assumption (possibly a little naively) that MMC have some sort of template for drilling the mounting holes for the wing treads rather than fitting by eye.
I am after three measurements please which are to the tapered tips of the treads:

Yellow Arrow - edge of the wing beading to the rear tip of the tread;
Green Arrow - trailing edge of the front wing to the rear tip of the tread; and
Orange Arrow - edge of the wing beading to the front tip of the tread.

I'm going down the 3M VHB tape route for fixing so the mounting bolts will be going. In a bit of a quandary as to what to do about the mounting bolt holes in the aluminium. Do I leave them in which case any water ingress will pool on the upper side off the tape which is waterproof so may not be an issue. Or do I try and seal them over? With rubbers fitted a small dab of clear silicone sealant squeezed into the hole from the underside and smoothed off? Any other ideas and suggestions gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance. Very much appreciated.

I have always thought that Stainless steel fixings on aluminium is a NoNo due to electrolytic corrosion of the aluminium ?
If this is correct then I would rather have the bolt holding the strip rust away than the aluminium fender corrode?

Hi Bob

I have a 2008 4/4 with factory fitted strips. My measurements are:

Yellow: 51mm
Green: 72mm
Orange: 75mm

That’s assuming there are any two the same!

Demon Tweeks do a range of aluminium fasteners.... plenty of other sources as well ....don't have treads fitted on mine but from the pic it looks like that would be ... an ali to ali with ali fix which should minimise any possible corrosion probs
