I have loads (30) of old (70s) golf clubs with steel shafts and steel/wooden heads.
I want to make something of them as a project while I am banged up in solitary.
Bearing in mind I have never welded anything in my life, can anyone recommend an easy to use not too expensive DIY welding kit that will enable me to weld connect/overlap stainless steel golf shafts as a possible garden ornament?

I would be tempted to silver solder rather than weld. If you weld onto thin metal as I presume the shafts are, they will blow through very easily.
Much cheaper and easier than welding I would say.

Kit needed is pretty basic
Some flux coated silver solder rods Wire wool Plumbers type blow torch
Clean the two parts thoroughly. Apply heat evenly and as the metal starts to heat and turn red introduce the rod. The flux will melt and then the rod itself will too. Keep the parts heated evenly by waving the torch over and off the parts. If parts are clean solder will flow beautifully :-)
EDIT: if the shafts are chrome plated as I know some golf clubs are, I dont think silver solder or welding will work

The club shafts are thin walled steel with a chrome (usually) plating. The thin walls make heat control difficult as they will overheat. Even brazing will be a challenge. Silver solder would be a better bet. The JB Weld or epoxy is a good idea and how about using decorative wire (copper, stainless) wrapped round as added strengthening and to disguise the joint? It could add some visual features. Some small holes drilled in the shafts would help JB Weld or epoxy “penetrate” for a better bond. As for bending the shafts, they are usually stepped not a straight taper and the thin walls mean they snap easily. A plumbers spring or a pipe bender are unlikely to work. I once had to have a snapped shaft replaced by our club pro. The club heads would either be cast or forged steel. If cast then they may be able to be snapped and that could be used as a feature too.
