Fibre glass not necessarily a bad thing – it is what they make skid lids out of, after all. When my first one was written off – glancing blow in the side – the door and side panels disintegrated, spreading out all the impact but leaving me unharmed (if not a little miffed) with an side-mounted sun roof! I did wonder about taking off the rest of the top, and just turning it into a trike, but bottled out in the end.

No, never got to drive a Bug – but the vans were scary enough. Next time you see one, look at those angles edges at the front. When you lift a back wheel (pretty much a ‘given’), these end up exactly parallel to the road, and act as skids!

Mike Duncan and John Worrall.

The price I quoted was had from Mogsport's Miscellany advertisement for the system. June 2007 p.15.

I am not sure YOU would like your cv written by a Pistonheader who doesn't know you. laugh Give Stewart a call.

Phil, non-LSD axles react very differently from LSD axles. Plus 8s/Aeros have LSD axles and Plus 4 and 4/4s do not. (Additionally, earlier Salisbury axles are weak (the non-LSDs versions more so), and very hard (aka almost impossible) to find parts for. Too much power into a 4/4 makes it a non-fun..even dangerous car.

For example, I recently tried a mightily upgraded 5L LR V8 in a BTRed non-LSD Plus 4. It was super fast on the straights and a death trap in the turns.

A good car is a cohesive marriage (match) of many parts. Double (or more) the power, and you must change many other areas to control the inevitable domino effect. If you don't massage that stuff out with comlimentary brakes, suspension, rear axle and gearbox, you are best to settle for bragging rights pubside than a ditch roadside. Easiest (and cheapest) way to ruin a car is to overpower it.

It can be found on the Fereday site. http://www.feredaycars.co.uk/zetec/ From 155 to 195 bhp (and higher if you ask) with the price varying from 700 to 2795 depending on whether you want a new engine included.

The contact name is Alan Fereday. Nice sort to deal with.

Quite right. I had a Zetec throttle bodied car which just spun it's inside rear wheel when pressed hard. Too much power and torque gives too little grip. I would have thought it a 'given' on high torque turbo conversions to fit an LSD. doh
But there are also dangers for the unintiated with an LSD too? They can 'snap' back, clssically if you start a slide and let off they can then bite back and cause you to spinoff in exaclty the opposite directio to what you were having the problem with. Saw a race Ford Escort at Silverstone start to slide wide at Woodcote (the fast corner by the start line) he let off and ended up hitting the pit wall hard on the inside of the corner.
There is also a big difference between the clutch type LSD that Morgan use as original equipment and the gear type (e.g Quaife). I had Quaife on my race Plus 8 and it was much more progressive than the normal cluthc one. I am told they can make a big difference to an Aero too. coffee

Thanks for that. It looks very simmilar to the Throttle Body conversion work that I had done by Mogsport on my Zetec (early silver top not later Focus). This is a fairly standard conversion used on Zetec cars this side of the pond (not sure about North America). Lots of kit cars and Westfields run this set up. Lots of competings suppliers gives a good choice at reasonable prices. flag

Phil,

I have never figured out why Morgan opted for BTR (in Australia) when Quaife is next door. I think they simply did not think of it as BTR and Salisbury were related. I am no fan of the Salisburys and the BTR is a hefty unit but it was designed for a truck. Quaife would have been a better choice. Perhaps that will come to pass now that a suppier relationship has been begun with them with the R&Ps.

Absolutely. I have always found it is wisest to stick with the pack when upgrading....though I broke my own rule in fueling the Canadian Plus 8.

Here is a new option Phil. http://www.morgansport.co.uk/ A full package or easy to service components. The people involved are Morgan community stalwarts you know.

I hope to try it out when I am when I am over in September/October/November.

Lorne

P.S. If you'd like, I can arrange a test for you as well.
