Reply from the Goodwood Hotel

Dear Mr Morgan,

Thank you for your email enquiry.

The dates for the Festival of Speed and Revival 2011 will not be confirmed until November when the Formula One Calendar has been confirmed. Once the dates have been confirmed the hotel will book all of its rooms on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday to Goodwood House, for Lord March's guests and sponsors. This means we only have rooms to sell to the public at the last minute IF they cancel any.

I have added you on the waitlist and we will contact you if rooms are available. Alternatively you may like to contact the Chichester Tourist Information Centre who may be able to offer alternative accommodation.

Kind Regards,

Samantha Skinner

Ludlow is indeed a hot-spot of Michelin starred restaurants near Malvern, but if you're touring in the area I personally would head towards the Cotswolds which Malvern is on the edge of.

If you're foodies, Heston is a must imho. There are several options, firstly the Fat Duck which is a culinary experience that should not be missed. Booking can be difficult, as you can only book up to two months in advance and they only release a month's bookings at a time. It may pay you to go for a lunch-time appointment, as there is less pressure on these.

In Bray, Heston also owns the Hinds Head serving English pub food of a high standard, quite often with an innovative twist. He has fairly recently also bought The Crown at Bray so if you can't get into the Hinds Head, then this is a new alternative. Another is the pub owned by Michael Parkinson and run by his son Nick - The Royal Oak which is in the area and the Chef here formerly worked for Heston at the Hinds Head. It has a Michelin star and serves similar food to . I am sure that when you visit we can organise a TM event, probably a Morgan lunch, as the Surrey Posse sometimes even head this far north into bandit territory. smile

Lastly on food, I mustn't forget Heston's new restaurant in London - Dinner which is positioned somewhere between the Hinds Head and the Fat Duck.

Regarding driving the M3W, all Morgan Dealers will have a demonstrator so organising a test drive will not be an issue and by then, several of us will have our own cars so no issue here. grin2 Driving any other model will also be easy to arrange.

Lastly, there are several places where you can hire a Morgan and not too far from Bray is the Morgan agent - Richard Thorne who hires Morgan's and this will enable you to drive up to Malvern in one.

Cheers
Thanks again Aeroman,

I now have some serious bookings to be had, the wife to be is starting to get a little worried that I might rival her budget she has for the france leg of the trip englandwave the only dampener is the November 2011 release of the FOS dates, I was hoping to start booking accommodation/tours this week...

On famous chefs have you eaten at any of Rick Steins restaurants, I've always loved his classic style of sea food..

I like the idea of driving a Mog up to Malvern that would be great fun and get me into the spirit of the Morgan factory tour, once I finalise my trip itinerary if any of the TM group would like a run and some lunch this would be great fun as a group and it will give the wife some nice romantic ideas of the club runs we will attend here in Au, also would be great to follow a few M3W's just to hear the engine notes.

I'm really looking forward to this trip happy3

Regards

Mika

Mika,

If Heston is your chef of choice then I agree with Aeroman, and recommend lunch at the Fat Duck. If you manage to get in go for the tasting menu, over twenty courses each with a recommended wine! Allow a good three hours and make the most of it.

Tried his new place "dinner" last week and the food was excellent but without the same sense of occasion or theatre.

Both need advanced booking, but you may have a better chance at Dinner. Especially if you stay at the Mandarin Oriental hotel, as the restaurant is inside this hotel. Also may get you some points with Mrs Mika as the hotel is across the road from Harrods.

If you stay in Ludlow, book the Feathers Hotel, secure car park and wonderful Timber Framed building.

We had a holiday in Cornwall last year and of course, the usual visit to Rick Stein's 'Seafood Restaurant' had to be on the itinerary. Still excellent, and as you can see from the website he has almost taken over Padstow - the locals now call it Padstein! smile

It's a bit of a trip down there (circa 220 miles from London) and the traffic can be horrendous, but worth the trip I think as the countryside in Cornwall is stunning. sunny

If you go to Padstow, you have to visit St. Ives as well and the Australian Chef at the Porthminster Cafe is excellent too! Try Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Cornwall on the way for breakfast or lunch!! If you need hotels, we have a couple that we use that are excellent. There's also plenty to do locally, as St. Ives is a noted centre for artists and there are many galleries and craft shops, including the Tate St. Ives.

Cheers
B

We haven't been there yet, but will definitely go when we are back in June. The food looks interesting but as you say it does not reach the level of theatre that you get at the Fat Duck. Mind you, there is a price difference too...

I would recommend the "meat fruit" starter which in true Heston style is neither meat nor fruit! ....... and save room for the Tipsy Cake pudding which is served with spit roasted pineapple soaked in rum. All , as you say, at a reasonable price when compared to the Fat Duck.

If you're off to London, instead of having a Heston overdose you're spoiled for choice with other fine places: Gordon Ramsay, Hibiscus (formerly of Ludlow), The Ledbury, etc. You'll have your pick of fish courses at any of them. Sadly I've only been to Hibiscus and that was many years ago... It apparently gets better and better.

Or try some of the Michelin-starred oriental restaurants in London that we like, such as Hakkasan or Nahm (Australian Chef here) or the World's most famous Japanese restaurant - Nobu, though it is not starred and now has a branch in Melbourne. Still great food though and frequented by a TM notable!
