How many times have you used the pump module you carried as a spare Roger???? Not on your own car I know wink . I also have the original pump....in a box on a shelf in the garage.

I haven't had to use my spares on the road but others have benefitted from my stash. My spare fuel pump was fitted in a French car park to a M3W that had only done just over 1000 miles.

I see, you had the older style with the dipstick too.

I think pressure in the tank is unnecessary and put extra stress on those seals. I wish someone would tell me why it is necessary to pressure the tank.

My original 2013 pump was running just fine until I replaced it with the Walbro pump over the winter just as a precaution.

I still have a brand new boxed Morgan pump as a spare, probably why the original pump never missed a beat.

Thanks for all the feedback, quite a mixed bag of experiences!

I have the Walbro replacement fuel pump but will keep it on standby for a bit longer, however I’ll probably replace the battery even though the original is kept on a conditioner, it’s probably due after five years.
As for the exhaust I plan to take it to Magnaflow when it eventually cracks and get them to fit a second flex-joint.

Interesting point about modern fuels, I always use Esso RON 97 as it’s ethanol free, this is essential on my Norton 750 so I’ve carried over the habit.

Cannot get ethanol free fuel here in any practical fashion.

I have the original M3W prototype, albeit chassis no 003. Still on the original pump AFAIK. Low mileage but all ok so far 🤞🏻

The trouble is they work and then don't, there's no warning.

Mine failed at just under 6 years and just over 30k miles and leaving me stranded in France frown

Rather annoyingly I was with ShaunD who had a spare pump and PaulR who's changed his a few times. However as the engine just cut with no preceding loss of power or stuttering before changing the pump we did some tests and there seemed to be plenty of fuel pressure from the schrader valve but no spark so I thought it was electrical/ECU.

I was in the "do I really need to change this" camp but now would definitely recommend it as a worthwhile precaution.

Carrying a spare pump and the tools for fixing at all times?

Pump.

Gasket?

What else tool wise?

Mine failed at 10,400 ft up a mountain pass (2100 miles on the clock), luckily I had an almost 10 mile 1 in 4 downward slope to a lovely cafe where I could get a lovely cuppa whilst waiting for the tow.

Tool Wise: A sharp knife preferably a scalpel type, small possidrive screw driver, something like a hole punch and hammer to remove the screw ring, rag to clean the area before removing (stop dirt getting into tank), printed copy of replacing instructions along with normal M3W tools and a big smile.
