Last year I received an email from Tcherek describing a problem someone was having with their M3W.... everything pointed to the fuel pump and sure enough it was

Tool Wise: A sharp knife preferably a scalpel type, small possidrive screw driver, something like a hole punch and hammer to remove the screw ring, rag to clean the area before removing (stop dirt getting into tank), printed copy of replacing instructions along with normal M3W tools and a big smile. True, the pump can be changed at the side of the road and you can drive around with all the spares and tools required to do the job but I can assure you, like a lot of M3W jobs, it's much easier to do it in your garage. It's not too tricky to change (unless the lock ring is corroded) and the standard pump is not known for its reliability, most of the Land Rover Discovery owners found that out many years ago as well. All the information is here: https://www.mtwc.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/M3W-5-Speeder-fuel-pump-replacement.pdf.

Mine failed at 10,400 ft up a mountain pass (2100 miles on the clock), luckily I had an almost 10 mile 1 in 4 downward slope to a lovely cafe where I could get a lovely cuppa whilst waiting for the tow.

Thank Bruce :-)

Bill put in a new pump and that failed after a short time so he was towed back to Bill's and another pump put in which lasted the rest of the adventure. I agree with Planenut much easier and less stressful to do the job at home in the garage than on the roadside especially if its raining.

Excellent instructions but 2 tips: When cutting the rubber foot to size it's the 6mm slice you'll be keeping (don't throw that bit in the bin!). For the new piece of flexible hose definitely put clamps at both ends. I found even the smaller crimp clamp was too big for the top connection so suggest using screw type fuel hose clamps.

Could have been that fellow. Tcherek could not reach Bill... Nice to know she thought of me as a back up!
