the more I am reading this thread... the more I am thinking another thing for my "to do" list

Last year I received an email from Tcherek describing a problem someone was having with their M3W.... everything pointed to the fuel pump and sure enough it was

True, the pump can be changed at the side of the road and you can drive around with all the spares and tools required to do the job but I can assure you, like a lot of M3W jobs, it's much easier to do it in your garage. It's not too tricky to change (unless the lock ring is corroded) and the standard pump is not known for its reliability, most of the Land Rover Discovery owners found that out many years ago as well. That was probably the chap who drove across all 48 States, the only real issue he had was the fuel pump failure luckily not far from Bill's establishment. Bill put in a new pump and that failed after a short time so he was towed back to Bill's and another pump put in which lasted the rest of the adventure.

I agree with Planenut much easier and less stressful to do the job at home in the garage than on the roadside especially if its raining.

Excellent instructions but 2 tips:

When cutting the rubber foot to size it's the 6mm slice you'll be keeping (don't throw that bit in the bin!).

For the new piece of flexible hose definitely put clamps at both ends. I found even the smaller crimp clamp was too big for the top connection so suggest using screw type fuel hose clamps.

Could have been that fellow. Tcherek could not reach Bill... Nice to know she thought of me as a back up!
