Due to the lockdown my garage build is on holds I am trying to plan the fit out, any suggestions will be welcome.
What is the best material to insulate the roof and walls?
What is recommended for sealing the floor, I will then cover it with carpet tiles. (the builders suggested covering the floor with a upv sealer/adhesive)?

Any suggestions most welcome , I feel as though I am in limbo at the moment my car is miles away in storage till the garage is built.

I just fitted rubber tiles over the bare concrete.

On my garage they built the floor after completing the walls and roof. I think they should have done it when it was just a couple of bricks high. The result on mine was they got the level wrong for the fit of the garage door.

Hopefully yours will be a roller or your builder knows what to do to get a correct fit.

I had a damp proof layer put in under the concrete but no insulation. Possibly a mistake, but you would need to make sure enough soil is removed so the floor level will not be too high.

Hawki, the floor level will be to the top of the insulating bricks and will have a damproof visqueene layer. yes it will be a 5mtr wide insulated roller door.

The insulation on roller doors is just a joke. I have a 5 mtr wide roller door.

On the new part (built 2013) of the garage, the walls and ceiling have 150 mm of fiberglass wool. The original garage (built 2002) has 100mm insulation walls and ceiling.

I can heat the garage when it is 0c outside and get it to 10C which is good for working in it in 40 minutes with 4 kw of electic heaters. The heaters start to swich on and off after an hour as the thermostats start to operate.

While Kingspan type insulation is twice as good, it was uneconomic as you are only using the garage when you are working on your car now and then. If the garage was being used 6 days a week in the winter that would be a different economic calculation.

The Harmann roller door is always running with condensation in these circumstances as it has the insulation value of single glazing. You cannot get enough thickness of insulation in there as the door has to fit on the roller above the door opening and there is only so much room for the roller.

Hormann and other door vendors have other types of door that have a good thickness of insulation and these tend to be sectional and side along a track and are parked on the inside wall of the garage to get the car in and out.

As always your money, your garage but a roller door is not a given, it is space efficient but very poor for insulation properties. I know from experiance.

Eddie ..... have you looked at the thin metalised 'bubblewrap' type insulation they use for camper vans ...only a few mm thick and flexible .... might this go on your door ??

My garage is much smaller than this - however to utilise space I`m planning on fitting shelves onto the inside of the roller doors.

I've got 3 individual 2.4m insulated high security roller doors on my garage, I find they work ok. The garage internal volume is 10m x 7m x 2.5m and I heat it with a 2Kw fan heater, takes about an hour to get warm though the whole garage but I keep the fan in front of the Morgan next to the tool cab so that bit warms up quickest.

The walls are double skin blocks with rockwool in the cavity, ceiling is double-skinned plasterboard with 150mm of celotex. Floor is 150mm of reinforced concrete with a damp proof membrane but no other insulation. I used recycled plastic interlocking tiles from Ecotile for the floor.

Keep a hose handy and spray your car etc as the dust will not do your car surface any favours
