I'm still learning about Morgans before I take the plunge! I'm a bit confused over the body width....is the Plus 4 Sport wider than the 4/4 Sport? All the info I can find is a width of 1500mm.

They differ by the width of wheels (modelwise) & (front) track (year-of-manufacturewise).
The 4/4 (Sports) currently is the most narrow one with it´s 165/80-15 tyres, followed by the Plus 4 with it´s 195/60-15 (or 205/60-15 when alloy-wheeld,205/65-15 as "Sports") and topped off by the Roadster with it´s 205/60-15 (on Alloys), respectively 205/55-16 (on wires)and 205/65-15 (as "Sports").
Easy to be identified by the gap between cowl & headlamp nacelle and/or the top of rear fenders.

Hi
I am looking at ordering a Plus 4 and wandered into this topic.
I don't like the wider wings on the Plus 4 Sport. Does the "traditional" series bespoke Plus 4 have the narrower wings?
Thanks.

Hello Quicksilver,
as you might see on several photos the bespoke +4 has narrower wings with wire wheels (6x15 with 195/60-15 tyres), a little wider ones with alloys (6,5x15 with 205/60-15 tyres)). The +4 & Roadster Sports always have the wider wings due to their 205/65-15 tyres on wider rims (6,5x15)
Hope that does help you a little....
Jochen

At the risk of upsetting the "old guard" I have to take it up for the wider models. For about 20 years (before I owned one) I couldnt figure out why I liked some Morgans more than others until I discovered the difference in width. It was the plus8 shape I fell for. Maybe a bit less classic (less Brumbrum as my son puts it ) but more "sportscar". I find the wider cars (plus8, roadster and much praised new Plus4SS) have more presence and look "faster". I do Agree with Marian about the wheels though. The 16" rims with the lowish profile tires look slightly out of place. In that respect the Plus4 is the worst of with 15"rims and the smallest tire circumference of the range resulting in the largest gaps between the tires and the wheelarches. See; Easily fixed by putting 65's on. IMHO the Plus4 sport/SS and Roadster sport have the best combination of wider arches and higher tires. Ref DaveW's desire, I wonder if one could negotiate with MMC to build a bespoke Plus4 or Roadster with the hubs, wheels and wigns of a 4/4 sport. Has anyone tried? Cheers JJW

The Waddesden photo link which I don't recall seeing mentioned on TM is here: www.lluniau-photography.comNo password is required, just click CLIENT AREA at top of Home Page. Look at individual cars, second page 21-40 image 5749 - blue 4/4. Mmmmmmmmm. Further on is 61-80- image 5863 a blue Plus8. Compare the two. The first one looks amazing, the proportions are just right. I'm very happy with the Roadster, but the frontal aspect is something I don't particularly like. I would face a real dilemma if MMC offered a comprehensive bespoke menu. +4SS engine in 4/4 body - how tempting would that be? But even the standard +4 engine in a 4/4 would tempt. While Plus 8 prices remain at stupid levels, I'm drifting away from the idea of getting one, although the right narrow bodied one could turn my head. I'm hoping to visit the local Lotus dealer for a snout round as soon as MrsW's back is turned - (evil laugh).

Dave, thanks for the flattering comments about my blue 4/4.
SWMBO got very excited when I mentioned that someone was passing favourable comments about her frontal proportions!
Have to agree with you about the 4/4, although the 1.8 duratec is fine for me, you could well be tempted by the +4SS, saw No 1 at Prescott today and it really looks the business.
