...I retired last Wednesday. Was meant to drive the Speedster to Williams on Friday then have a month in Devon with the children, grandchildren and friends joining me for a big retirement party!
I think not. I’ll be sorting out my wardrobe today in Reading- packing the suits, shirts and ties for a local charity. I hope I won’t be needing them.
Stay safe all- enjoy sun in the garden.

Welcome to the club. I retired on 2oth Feb & had a few trips planned etc.
I can understand how frustrating it must be if you have a home down there but can't get there.

Wot not ever? If the selfish idiots continue to flock to the park, beach etc the government is poised to ban outdoor exercise. There are always those who think the rules do not apply to them. Scotland's CMO was seen at her holiday home an hour from Edinburgh, what was she thinking?

The exit strategy is going to be interesting! Going by the idiots flouting the guidelines at the moment then any perceived relaxations will be a trigger for more to be idiots. There is a fine line between allowing more people movement to get the economy upturning and controlling the virus spread. I hope that some opening of businesses goes ahead with shops managing numbers and queues, factories moving to sensible managed production, but tight control maintained for pubs, concerts, sport as gatherings at such events is prime virus territory.

Is the local health care provision only set up to cater for “ when the second home owners aren’t here”-? Seems a bit unfair because the properties are there all year-! As are the taxes!! But Health care in the UK is funded by Income Tax and Soc? So would you expect your one set of taxes to pay for two sets of health infrastructure? Not having a go as I am a also a second home owner, but I think it is sensible to be aware of, and sensitive to the issues involved.

“Almost half of the council tax we pay goes towards care services for adults and children – and that share could be set to grow significantly by 2019/20, new research shows. For every £1 we pay via council tax in 2019/20, 56p will be spent on caring for the elderly, vulnerable adults and children – up from 49p in 2016/17, according to Local Government Association (LGA) forecasts”.
Which means the local NHS should be able to spend more on other services when the above services are paid by local taxes and not pushed on the NHS - agreed its not working very well in many areas.
In a way there are already two sets of Health infrastructures paid by different taxes already -
