I found this on another forum whilst not new thought it might be of interest to somevin the year 2000 Lord Harvey Jones made an interview with Morgan factory through a BBC Wales production trying to rescue the Morgan from demise. However the clip here is for your enjoyment. If you skip forward to about 10 minutes in then the Morgan story starts lasts about 20 mins. [video:youtube] https://youtu.be/OBu5ewmEP2E[/video] Whether or not I think you guys would like it if you have not seen it before Lord Harvey- Jones was at one time chairman of ICI (Maker of Cuprinol amongst another chemical. He was brought in a series of programmes rescuing ailing companies

So did most of the other companies he visited - either absorbed into others, or sank. Happy birthday Hannes!

Saw the prog when first aired on TV.
To be fair JHJ advised modernising production techniques at MMC and other businesses he visited, which has taken place over time Superform wings as opposed to hand beaten being just one example..?

Yes, a lot of his suggestions have gradually been put into place over a long time. Evolution...

I remember the original and a follow-up program. It did look like things were changed with the attitude of “ make in-house instead of outsourcing” was being replaced in many areas. When I went to work at the cigar factory I was annoyed at regular comments like “ but we’ve always done it like that”. A reluctance to change and develope.

Sorry to be a pedant, but he was Sir John Harvey Jones, he never became a Lord. A truly exceptional man - he was a Submarine Captain at the age of 24, one of the most demanding jobs imaginable. I think the rest of it came quite easily to him. As Luddite and Sospan have pointed out, MMC did indeed adopt much of his advice, famously the point about starting production at the top of the hill and pushing the cars down the hill as they progressed, and moving onto new models (the aero).

In his later years Sir John lived down the road from me in Hereford and was great fun to be with at dinner parties, etc. He was a very gentle man quietly spoken, told amazing stories and had an affectionate spot for Morgan. I think he would have bought a Morgan but considered himself too big for one.
