Hi everyone.
I need some advice. Today I started the car first time this year. Everything seems to be fine except that the direction indicators are not working. If I press the hazard switch, nothing happens. The car in question is a 1998 +8
Could this indicate that something is wrong with a relay? Where should I start to look?
I have been looking around a bit behind the dashboard during the winter, so there is a chance I have caused the problem myself.
Best regards

Start with the hazard warning light relay. Wiggle the connections...………. Thank you for the tip. For me who is not a car electrics expert. Does this relay look just like a standard relay?

Yes & it will be in that mess of wires behind the dash. Put your handle under your drivers side near the tunnel. It should be in there.

Do you also have a fuse board under the hood ? I had my indicators stop working and it was one of the fuses in there that just needed re-seating.

The fuses are under the dash above the tunnel

To report on progress, and more questions.
I have not yet found the problem. I found three relays behind the dash. All worked OK. I have a wiring diagram that seems to be fairly accurate. According to that I should have 12V on a purple/red wire at the hazard switch. That is OK. I have tried to mannually short the wires at the indicator stalk. No change. I can not find any faulty fuse. Yet.
Questions. According to the wiring diagram there should be something called a "Flasher unit". How does such a thing look like? Since the hazard switch has 12V, but I dont hear any relay click, I start to wonder if the problem could be in the earthing side of the realys. What do you think about that idea?
Best regards

Just wanted to tell everyone that the problem is fixed now. After investigating all the relays I could find and double-checking all the fuses, nothing was found to be wrong. I then started to look for loose calbles, but after a while I had to admit defeat. I do not have the knowledge or the place to be to really start pulling everything behind the dash apart.
So I enlisted the help from a proffessional. He could fairly quickly find a loose cable somwhere. I do not know exactly where. So now everything is good again. Well, except for me feeling stupid. But I can take that.
