That sounds like a plan John and we all need something to look forward to.

Not sure who's knee that is sitting in P1 but this is cockpit. Remember the bright sun that day accounting for reflection in central AH.

When I first moved to Jersey in 1974 Intra Airways only passenger plane was a DC3, sadly I never flew on one, normally using the newly created BA's Vanguards.

Intra Airways eventually became FlyBe.

I lived a few miles from Ringway (Manchester Airport) in the 1950 and 60s. (Now a couple of miles from Duxford). As an avid 12 year old plane spotter back in the early 1960s I used to cycle up to the airport and meet friends. From memory there were two piers and I think it was sixpence to gain access. We used to use one of the long meccano straight bits to jiggle the coin mechanism to avoid the big expense. From memory Cambrian Airways, Channel Airways used to fly them into Ringway. But my favourite was the Dan Air Avro York. And the Vulcans flying out of Woodford. There were a few DC3s flying out of Bogota in the late 80s/early 90s when I used to travel to S.America. I can guess what the cargo was.

My Dad used to fly to Australia in the late 40s early 50s I must dig out the old cine film to see what he flew in. I think it was 12 days, daylight flying only rather than 5 weeks by ship.

Thanks Bob.
I have remembered to save that now smile
It was a stunning day weatherwise (should have been in my 4/4 really).

John - definitely look forward to visiting both those sites. As a member of a small group one of our number had planned a re-visit to Shuttleworth for May, but I really don't see that coming off for quite a while.

I remember being based in Fleet and seeing the DC3 that the Para's in Aldershot used rumbling along quite often as it went to drop it's loonies out for testing. That was a long time ago.

@planenut - is that a whole group of working Lightnings in one formation? Good grief how did they find that many working AND afford the gasoline at the same time.

I remember visiting Tauranga around 2008(?) as part of a tour when I was working for a wifi company and they were looking to install it in the lumber port. Amazing watching that place at work, how they did not squash more people moving the lumber was quite a skill. Lovely place.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

In the 3 years I was at RAF Binbrook I only remember seeing that many Lightnings all serviceable and in the same bit of sky at the same time 2 or 3 times. It was always an impressive aircraft and the manhours of servicing to flying were also impressive but for the wrong reasons!

When I lived just south of Munich a JU 52 used to give pleasure flights from the old Munich airport. They were fun to watch.

DDA Classic Airlines from the Netherlands will be flying passengers from Cambridge in Douglas DC-3 PH-PBA over the weekend of the Flying Legends airshow at nearby Duxford on July 11 and 12. www.dutchdakota.nl/en/book-flight/

Tacit on the Chinese takeaway lying low by then.

150 Euro for a 30Minute flight represents good value to me.

Incidentally the flights being offered in a DC 3 on the south coast are £295 for only 20 Mins so this Dutch flight really is good value it seems.

It would have been great to have arrived at Duxford in this but those trips sold out before I was aware of them..
