Old men and their memories..sigh..(-:
Last DC3 I saw flying was the Iceland Air kite when it flew into the local airport, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Iceland Air flight into Scotland.. Yeah I have pics.. (-:
Great DC£ pics, thanks for posting them.
Been in the fortunate position to get up close and personal with quite a variety of aircraft over the years, never more so when Concorde landed while I was standing on the very edge of the clear and graded area from the centre line as it touched down, quite something to watch listen and feel on the glide-path up to touch down, and later to see it take off.. The Concorde Crews were great ambassadors both for BA and the Concorde. The local airport had three of them in at once in the distant past, Sorry got off track, but when discussing iconic aircraft my mind automatically flipped to Concorde.

I flew the pond in Concorde once to JFK. It was amazing. Ditto, 2 April 1997, unforgettable and wonderful.

I did the Bay of Biscay trip. Particularly remember being shown the “ expansion gap” when we were cruising at altitude. I think it stretched a couple of ft?
Also the line that we were 1 of 450 of the highest flying humans in that moment in time. I.e. London/JFK and Paris/JFK were also both somewhere in the lower stratosphere!

Me too, 1st April 1981 (no, it wasn’t an April fools) to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the amalgamation of the RFC and RNAS. I still have the certificate, first day cover and the suedette folder.

At 55,000 feet and Mach 2 it was very quiet & very stable. Less noise than say a dream liner or A380..
