A sad loss indeed, but as others have pointed out, a great life well lived. I recall a T V interview once when Stirling recounted an incident with the police. He was stopped one evening for speeding and as the policeman approached, he exclaimed “ So who do you think you are, driving like that... Stirling Moss?” John Surtees was stopped in 1965 and asked the same question (when he was F1 World champion, having also been 7 times Motorcycle World Champ).....

Remember a few years ago, he also survived falling 3 floors down a lift shaft.

There is a story, perportedly true, that he saw stopped by the Fuzz for speeding but who did not recognise him.
"Who do you think you are, Stirling Moss?" he was asked.

Sir Stirling on a visit to Shelsley Walsh .... the first event he ever entered with his new Cooper JAP ....they kicked his entry back as no-one knew who this lad was ...apparently he still had the returned cheque amongst his papers . I like that, when he was still driving, his commuter car from his home in London, was a Renault Twizy.

Sad loss of a true English Gent & Sportsman, one of his first vehicles was an early Morgan three wheeler & his passenger was his pet (IIRC) ferret
