Actually their 2nd home allowance should be suspended while they cannot attend Parliament. After all, UK workers are not getting paid expenses while not working!

Ah but they will have huge amounts of constituency work. They may have had to furlough their relatives.

IPSA is the name of the body responsible for MPs expenses payments
On the first page of their website they state
"Our aim is to assure the public that MPs’ use of taxpayers’ money is well regulated "
This has resulted in MPs not having to provide receipts for up to £26,000 of expenses.
This additional 10T is accompanied with the statement "we are relaxing the rules regarding proof of the expense"!!! And relaxing the need to claim within 90 days of the spend.
How do you relax a "no evidence required" rule?????
Justifications so far have included costs of extra phone calls......so they're not clever enough to buy an unlimited calls package then....and extra staff...presumably to handle the surge of complaints about the payment....... And extra heating and lighting. So the poor public on 80% of their income who also will have increased heating and lighting?

Very poor public relations when so many of the public are caught unable to actually get hold of the funds promised to help them. I've been hearing some awful Universal Credit stories on money box live and also the self employed are expected to survive until July before recieving any help.....

Perhaps he'd do what Cameron did when IPSA decided to raise MPs salaries by 10% after the expenses scandal. He said publicly that IPSA had made completely the wrong decision and should sort itself out quickly. Then he publicly supported the MPs taking the rise (when all other public servants had pay frozen) saying they should be paid the going rate! Nice politics David.

In theory the UK (and most other countries) is a democracy. Perhaps the employers, the taxpayers, should have a vote on politician's salaries and expenses. That would be interesting.

Presumably HMRC will now accept £10K per annum as being a reasonable sum by way of "home office" expenses for taxpayers who work from home?

You do all realise that to get the highest calibre candidates for Parliament, you must pay the appropriate salary and benefits...........

That way you get the very highest achievers, such as Diane Abbott, (as an example)......

Gee what are we going to have to pay in order to get some functioning ones then?

Could we not turn this around and pay them against achievements and goals? Could save a fortune.

Scroungers...? I can well understand that sort of frustration, I suffer a degree of that myself, our TV has many a scar from slipper contact...(-:

I am pretty sure that many politicians other than perhaps some of those born into it, have a chance of being in it for the common good or at least start out with good intentions, though to deny that human nature does not bring with it a degree of seeking advantage, would seem to hint at blinker wearing..?

Even those that start out with a high degree of seeking improvement for the common good, will no doubt be presented with advantage of some kind or another during their time as politicians and in many cases advantages to be gained thereafter..?

Pick your side if you will but there has been examples of advantage grabbed with both hands regardless of the colour of politician, and not just back benchers.. I suspect it was ever all just seen as part of the system, so no real need to pay them high wages, and less so if they get a seat in the house of Lords... that has guaranteed benefits of income improvement it seems..?

I suspect like many jobs there may be a good deal of pain for the gain..?

Me..? I sought improvement in my living standards all my life, I expect others to try do do so too...
