With the Phil's videos and email support from Phil, I have had my engine out and modified and fitted the Bleazey Centa upgrade parts and bevel box mount myself. It is all back together and after a very short drive initial impressions are that the drivetrain is much smoother than previously. Great achievement to have done it on your own ! I’m planing to do the centa upgrade after confinement but at Phil’´s place relying on his know how 😇. Targeting October, driving up to Lancaster from Normandy, and some tourism on my way back through wales landscapes.

Having originally planned to take my Trike to Phil to get my Centa upgrade carried out in his workshop, the Covid 19 restrictions put pay to that. So decided to do the next best thing and link virtual Phil via his You Tube channel to my garage and take the engine out and deliver to Phil following the Covid rules. I found the instructions excellent, with Phil on hand on the phone when I needed, I got the engine out and delivered without any issues keeping the 2m distance rule when we met. I have now got the engine back and the remains of rubbers from the drive unit. I was shocked that after only 12,000 miles that one of the rubbers only had a 1/4 of it left, and this is me driving like Miss Daisey after doing the 2019 Swiss trip on my Commando 11 front tyres and still having 3mm left on them.
I will add my support to the other posts and say a big thank you to Phil & Claire for all the help.

Well done Nigel, I took my Engine to Phil last year after Grindelwald for his upgrade. Drive rubbers were like brand new at 16,000 mls Commander II Tyres only lasted To Switzerland and back. Tyres bald, NOT driving like Miss Daisy. Must be a motto there. Trying Pirelli Route MT 66 now, when I looked today like brand new !! Ian

I have just fitted my Pirelli Night Dragons and the turn-in has become outrageous and the car noticably unstable at speed (on the VERY limited lap of the block that I did last weekend). Am minded to get the tracking checked and maybe move to a little toe-in instead, in an attempt to calm things down somewhat. Car was spot-on with the Blockleys, but perhaps these bike tyres are far more geometry-sensitive. Just interested to see what others have for front geo?

Took the Michelin Comanders out last Saturday for a first run around the block ish, (20 miles).
Set up exactly the same as the old Blockleys but what a difference. Sharper turn in and virtually no understeer. Sticks like sh1t to a blanket.
Impressed, don't know about the longevity though, but you can't have everything.

I don't get on here often enough - spend too much time lying under three wheelers I suppose!
I have to say, I find your lovely comments humbling but also rewarding. I enjoy every minute of my work and I am just glad if it helps sort out some of peoples problems.
Many people have suggested that I should have been on the M3W design team but I am well aware of how easy it is to pick holes in other peoples work and how hard it is to get this sort of thing right starting from scratch. My career has involved trouble shooting rotating equipment for more than 5 decades- I am good at it but that also makes me a right royal pain in the arse to folks who's equipment I get to play with.
Interesting to find myself lining up a Centa coupling for a friend last week - in a narrow boat. You can't beat a bit of variety.
Thanks again for all those nice words, hope to meet up with you'll again soon - when this Covid thing is behind us.
stay safe.

Sorry Ringa just saw your question. My Mog was set up wildly out from new I suspect. That is why tyres wore so quickly. I reset the tracking with a slight toe in but not as much as Morgan say.Lets see how Pirelli MT66 thres wear. Handles really well now. Rgds Ian

I reset the tracking with a slight toe in but not as much as Morgan say.Lets see how Pirelli MT66 thres wear. Handles really well now. Rgds Ian Appreciate this is drifting off topic a little, but I think the cause of my VERY twitchy handling is two-fold. First and easy fix was to get the tracking checked. Turns out the NSF was over 2 degrees Toe-Out, with the OSF slightly Toe-In. Not ideal. Now set at parallel and certainly improved, but by no means what you might call stable and predictable. Bear in mind that the parallel setup has always worked really well with the Blockleys, up to the point that they go into terminal understeer when really pushing on. A simple change to the rounded profile Pirelli Night Dragon bike tyre has made a huge difference to the grip available (which is good), but the car is way too flighty to be safe on fast back roads..... On reflection though, I checked the camber and remembered that I had gone pretty much as far as I could with the Empire Kit and am running -2.7 degrees each side. Great for trying to keep the Blockleys with a tread face in line with the tarmac when loaded up, but maybe not so clever with a round profile bike tyre. Clearly as the lock is applied the contact patch moves forward as the profile changes in relation to the road surface, introducing the unnecessarily fast and nervous steering. Perhaps. Evidence suggests that these tyres do work for others and I am aware that my negative camber was more than most folks run (during informal comparison across the 30+ cars at Grindelwald last September). So I will reset the camber to about half that negative value and see what makes.....
