Could I draw upon your collective wisdom and ask you if would it be possible to attach the Ctek with its tiny ring terminals permanently and safely to the starter battery without cutting the original cable and installing a new terminal. I've seen something called a "KnuKonceptz" terminal which would be ideal but not available in the UK.
I've thought of soldering the Ctek connector directly to large washer but that seems to be somewhat naff.

On all my Moggies I have attached the Ctek cables to the tightening nuts of the battery terminal clamps using the Ctek ring terminals, then ran the cable under the shelf and around edge of carpet so it can be easily connected to the charger. I suppose it depends on what battery terminals you have but changing the ring connectors would not be difficult at all.

Put an in line fuse in the positive wire, close to the battery, just in case.

The Ctek unit itself has a cut off for overload, etc.

I have done exactly as Bruce because I want to keep the Odyssey AGM battery always fairly topped up, the AGM battery requires about 30% of its a/h rating from the charger in the bulk phase so as not to reduce capacity over time .
If the car has not been out I put on charge every three weeks, and Dave my Ctek cable has that fuse in it.

I just plug mine into the cigarette lighter socket, saves all this extra work and works a treat!

Mine has lived on the charger via the cigarette lighter since new with no problems

Far better to use the supplied ring terminal option direct to battery. Less resistance so charger gets the opportunity to charge within its full voltage control regime. The extra terminal lead option on my Ctek clone is fused within, has non reversible connector and cover for when not in use, when its tooked under carpet.

Can't remember which model my Ctec is but it came with 2 sets of cables, 1 with crocodile clips for direct to battery connection and 1 with a cigarette lighter plug.

Why not call Ctek and ask them for a solution.

As it happens I always use the cigarette lighter plug on Mog with no problems but I will use the crocodile clips to condition our Freelander's battery before we fire it up again.
