Just seen the most amazing site! a "chain" of dozens of satellites passing overhead - thought I was going nuts at first (no surprise to many!) so had to get  out to confirm that it wasn't an effect of the 2nd G&T consumed earlier - she saw them too (although admittedly she had also had 2 G&T's)! A bit of research on line and they were probably a recent launch by Spacex of the latest batch of Starlink satellites that are supposed to provide internet to all - in the short time I watched them till the string of satellites passed, I must have seen at least 40 of them following each other about 20 degrees apart - I understand there were many more before i spotted them. Astonishing to watch, but now I understand what the astronomers around the world are upset about - really upsets observations and astrophotography! Anyone else out there that saw them?

Interesting stuff. Until I read your second post, I just took it for granted that you had decided that a satellite is a vehicle of some kind.

Actually - thinking about it, they probably won't be visible as they are low earth orbit and the sun has set too long ago for them to reflect the light!

Interesting stuff. Until I read your second post, I just took it for granted that you had decided that a satellite is a vehicle of some kind. My first vehicle I bought in USA was a Plymouth Satellite station wagon. Only one though,they didn't come in chains.

In some respects it is actually vehicle related, at least if we consider which projects the founder Elon Musk else is running. Am I the only one who thinks it's despicable that an impossibly egotistical billionaire can't be curbed from robbing all 9 billion others of us of the beauty of the heavens in order to increase the obscene pile of dosh he squats on ? .... no doubt the internet generation think it's great but then they never drag their faces out of their phones long enough to gaze at a starry sky Or is that just me being curmudgeonly again?
