...the word that gets bandied around, which the Morgan has and most mainstream 911s/Caymans/Boxsters are missing, is soul. A difficult word to define but I believe it boils down to: sense of occasion, the feeling of owning something unique, the hand crafted nature of the product, a modicum of eccentricity and a wonderful driving experience which isn't perfect but is more thrilling than any modern safety-net enabled car; all of these things are very Morgan qualities.
You have captured exactly what I wanted to express. I have been extremely happy with the Porsche but it doesn't provide the sense of occasion that it did when I first purchased it. I have looked at other sports cars to see if I can find something for a new thrill and they are all leave me with a sense that it is more of the same. I'll put in a call to Julian ayt SGT and arrnage a test drive.

Hi Bizfish, The others have covered it all I think. I bought an ex demo 4/4 Sport a couple of months ago as my first introduction to Morgans, coming from a Z3 and Z4 background. VERY different!! Like you, the 4/4 attracted me with its narrow wheels/body etc and I also wanted a more "basic" car on which to make various improvements and make it my own. If I'm honest, it took me a while to come to terms with the car, the feel of the ride, the brakes (compared to my BMWs!) and the noise never mind the worry about how the traditional roof would fare in a downpour! Funnily enough, the lack of power compared to my previous cars didn't turn out to be an issue as the car is so light. It took me a trip around Scotland after a month of ownership for it all to drop into place. It's back at the factory now for a couple of weeks for some niggles to be sorted which would have bugged me with the BMs but I just see it as part of the Morgan experience (and an excuse to have another look around the factory...luckily just down the road for me  ) And I'm really missing it and I realised that its the first car I've really ever bonded with! If you can, do have a factory visit and try out the cars before you make a final decision, they may at first glance look the same but each is different. Good luck! PS. I meant to add, I've been to a couple of Morgan Club gatherings and what a nice bunch they are! So different to some of the other clubs I've been a member of and must say something about the typical Morgan owner!

...They often improve with first ownership as the initial niggles are sorted. Hi JJW Yes, I hadn't thought of that. thanks for the comment. The trouble with test driving all the cars in the range is I might like the Roadster rather a lot and that requires a somewhat bigger budget.

Simon, I think what you say sums up exactly all the pros and cons in a balanced and sensible way So much so, I've even found myself agreeing with it! ( Now where did I put those tablets?   Thanks G; I missed this the first time around. As you've said in another thread, we all share a passion for Morgans and the fact that we sometimes differ on the route to our petrol nirvana isn't an issue for anyone.

In my opinion a 4/4 Sport is a great car for a "first Morgan".  I was mulling about buying a Morgan for quite a few years and when I saw the 4/4S at the Autosalon Genf I knew this is finally the one I really want: a very basic car at an affordable price, with decent power to comfortably cruise around and still enough ummpff under the hood if I feel like overtaking a Porsche  I did also look into pre-owned cars but I am no mechanic and with the 4/4S I do have the vintage motoring look/experience without the troubles of a real vintage car. The past 18 months I did more mileage with the Morgan (7000 km) than with my other car (a 5 year old Opel Tigra TwinTop). In the past weeks I even took the Morgan for the shopping trips  ... just a matter of how to organize oneself. I am loving every inch I doing in the car and if the weather  improves for the Pentecost weekend you sure will find me cruising around Lake Lucerne or in the Jura Montagne.

Spot on! So much so, that after last week's LeJog in my '76 4/4 I'm seriously considering selling Piggy  It still surprises me the effect a Mog has on the 'general public' e.g. driving through part of the Lake District, surrounded by beautiful scenery, and all cameras seemed to point at RTA... Bonkers? Probably! If I do need to find another small car I'll look for a small coupe (where rear seat access is difficult - stops  wanting to carry grandchildren  ).
