I have a few watches ... some favourites

Fantastic ! This watch was originally issued to the Royal Navy (0552) circa 72 as thats the DOM but possibly issued later. At some point it looks like it was re -issued to the RAF, probably at an MU ( maintenance unit ) and given the a new engraving prefix. The 6BB prefix is RAF issue wristwatch. Prob worth around 2.5 K , to the right person maybe more.

Yep, bars are fixed ...the strap is a later addition .... made so there's a tongue that folds over the bars and sticks to the rest of the strap ..... many thanks for the info ....had it since the early eighties and had no idea it was anything special ...just always been there .

Now feel a little bit like one of those guys who bought a blower Bentley for 500 quid in the fifties and kept it at the back of the garage

I’ve got the blingy sort of watch you’d expect me to have, I bought it for my wife ...to give to me for my fiftieth. I like it, it’s the one I’ve always liked , but it just gets in the way, there’s never really a time I put it on where it doesn’t get bashed against something or smeared with whatever I’m interfering with. I’ll post a picture when my phone recharges.

Know what you mean about watches ...I don't have the lifestyle for watch wearing .... it would be wrecked in minutes.... that's my only ever watch and it was a 'tool of the trade' when I was gliding (with no engine theres no power for an onboard clock so a watch was a must) .... wore it to fly and put it away til the next time....not been worn since I gave up.

Fascinating to find out more about it though ... along with my will the solicitor has a list of the items we own that shouldn't just be lumped into house clearance when the time comes because they're special for some reason .... looks like I'll unexpectedly be adding the watch to the list courtesy of the knowlegeable Bonesie

I love my Speedmasters and IWCs, but the ideal match for a Morgan should be British - Bremont.

I bought my Vertex watch from Exchange and Mart in the early 70’s, if I remember correctly for abut £5 10shillings and sixpence.
It is one of the dirty dozen watches. I also have a Cyma issue as well. These were the first wristwatches specially commissioned for the British Army during the Second World War. I do like Military or Aeronautical watches. My favourites being Heuer Pilot Automatic and a Marvin Flying Dutchman watch which were issued to KLM Pilots in the 1950’s.
