That would seem to be logical, if only the Government would relax the planning laws on change of use.
Mind you, some of the larger stores would need a lot of work. We have lost C&A, demolished and a hotel is being built, BHS closed and the site remains empty, it is part of a large shopping mall, Debenhams has closed and will not re-open, it is in a listed building.

Salisbury lost the Friends Provident HQ after the AVIVA take over. The building was flattened and McCarthy and Stone prison cells built, as "retirement living".
They are asking stupidly high prices: £400k for 73 sqm, 2 bedrooms.
We have 245 sqm and use it all, plus a double garage, all on a 1000 sq m plot. No way we'd move to a pokey little flat in a place full of the old.

If they are to attract people to live in the city it needs affordable housing, good services and companies to work for.

Yes John - which is why the car is pushed in and out! Impossible to drive it on mirrors (at least Morgan type ones. Would manage with something like Land Rover mirrors, but doubt it would fit between the gateposts you can see in photo). Easy to "push" to the garage as there is a very minor slope down to the garage, so more effort required to get car out - think of it as morning exercise smile . Drive steepens once passed the front of the bungalow, have not yet managed to push any Morgan all the way to the road! smile

I think very little will survive in the high street, virus or not ..... just things that need the actual physical presence of the customer ....eating, drinking (for those times when a takeaway is socially a bit flat) ....hairdressers, coffee shops, nail bars, tattoo parlours ...as we get more at ease with internet banking even the banks and building societies will leave (with maybe a 'main branch' serving a wide area ) ..... maybe the odd niche specialist (I can think of a boot shop in London that only does British made boots ...has a cult following and it's location and number of potential customers in its catchment seems to allow it to survive ) ...... but not a good time to be a commercial landlord with a portfolio heavy in shops.

Or maybe the whole thing will switch over to the 'night out' trade ..... dead during the day and alive at night with small clubs, eateries and bars ....sort of a seaside 'golden mile' without the sea ..... catering to the saturday Night Crowd and the bored in need of diversion. Certainly based on my early life I would never have predicted the explosion in 'eating out' in the last 25 years.

Now you have time could you not set up a cable system like a steam plough to do that?

A fisherman friend dropped some fresh fish off for me this week, I delivered some to my in-laws in my unnamed Morgan. I deliberately avoided crashing and breaking down, it was quite easy really and nobody cared.

Well, yes. But I'd rather be in direct control with a hand on the steering wheel smile
Unfortunately I've missed out on steam ploughing over the last few years. Always clashes with you know where.

I also had a prescription pick up and delivery to make for a neighbour combined with a shop and recycle to get shot of some glass.
God did it feel good after 18 days fast, well I feel it's only fair to let Heather exercise her new toy more than use the Morgan for our own and neighbours errands.
It imbued a little happiness to others also with a couple of thumbs up and "lovely cars", so what's not to like.

She scrubs up well for a 21 year old.

Scrubbed and polished ready for tomorrows work journeys, having made the shop run earlier. Have to say, drive by inspections are much easier with no roof!

Drove out of my garage onto the drive. Let the engine tick over for 20 minutes (revved a few times) as Green Flag recommend (although could be controversial). Greased the kingpins and cleaned the front wheels. Drove back into the garage.

I made the decision early on to abide by the spirit of the lockdown and not try to find (admittedly easy) excuses to use the Morgan. It hasn't been easy with the weather we've been having. Especially as so many seem to find reasons to get out and about. I'll bet elderly parents have never had so many of their offspring visit them bringing shopping. And "go to the shops once a week" has been interpreted as "go to each supermarket at least once a week".

Anyway, kingpins greased once more but I think I'm over-greasing them as there's a lot of grease around the lower upper spring and the lower spring. Had this problem last year when I experienced a bit of pulling to one side under braking which Techniques diagnosed as a build up of grease in getting onto the near side disc. I cleaned it all off but will have to be less liberal with the grease gun in future. Tried for an "arty" shot of a wheel and the car but probably should have set it up properly and used the real camera!
