I have never jacked the car up to grease the kingpins and I would probably be considered a bit slack about greasing. I grease the kingpins before and after every long trip. In some cases that trip could be 5 or 6,000 km. If it is convenient I will get some grease in before heading for home but usually it would be a hassle to find a garage to do it. I don't carry the small portable grease gun because I worry about it leaking if gets hot.

The factory kingpins were replaced with hard chrome pins at about 13,500 km when I had the Suplex (now SSL) front suspension kit fitted. That was over 50,000 km ago.

I now have the hard chrome kingpins - Thanks Colin they are still doing fine!- I grease lower nipples until old grease comes out then clean it off then do the upper ones until grease starts to emerge from the bearings again. Clean off - job done. Also don`t use the remote as it is a good idea to see the grease start to emerge and also to have a quick visual check down under - if you will pardon the expression!

Don't know if you remember this Phil, I had 5 cars booked in that month ;-) Peter Mulberry supplied all the stock, all Hardchromes with Spiral Grooved P/B Bushes..... superb quality.

Tim you have been copying me . I get the mog out for spring but the only pig is that nipple behind the gearbox you can bet what you want but no matter how you push it its always pointing the other way . Going to have a word with a local garage along the road to see if he will let me hire one of his his ramps so I can paint the chassis from underneath I can paint the chassis under the bonnet with special brushes I have. One wanted 160 quid.
I had it up on my axle stands and Weber jacks for safety ps got some black chassis paint .

I’m always under my 4/4 checking and cleaning (OCD) the remote grease kit is far easier for me to grease from above, nothing stopping you from bending down after (when you hear the pop sound) for a quick wipe of any excess grease. That’s what I do smile

Cut a hole in the gearbox cover and take the pain out of the job.

Both should be greesed about every 1000 Miles. In addition it would be a good idea to have a gaitor
around the springs.

The lower nipples need grease until you see it coming out, but keep attention, overgreasing means to grease
the brakediscs! If you keep attention you hear it with a light "pft".

For the upper nipples: only 4-5 times press some grease in, there is the risk if it's overdone it blocks the sliding.

Sound difficult, be sure, you get the experience!
Drive more with the MOG, so you need more grease, you get the experience!

Hallo Werner,

Thank you René for the hint about the dust protection for the lower spring. I just found it in the book of David Wellings and in his post in TM. How did you build your dust protection?

Danke, René für Deinen Tip mit dem Staubschutz. Ich habe es auch im Buch von David Wellings und in seinem post hier in TM gefunden. Wie hast Du das gelöst?

Greetings from Zürich
Werner

Hello Werner,

there was a description about the construction here: http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/601190/2

It's one of the later posts. Today I think I do 50mm instead the 40mm. In cause I'm too silly to post photographs here
I can send it by email.

And also about interest: http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/598173/not-only-the-kingpins#Post598173

René

es gibt eine Anleitung wie der Staubschutzangefertigt werden kann hier im Forum. Siehe da:
http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/601190/2

geschickt.

Und auch auf dem "Schmierplan": http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/598173/not-only-the-kingpins#Post598173

Gruß René

Colin (first method is a clean and easy way to give the front a couple of shots of grease when touring)

This is my solution to 'tour greasing' helps with access to the top nipple as Colin suggests above

I also fitted those extensions a couple of years back, following a tip on TM and they make it so much easier to access. Mind you, I still have a belly crawl to make sure discs are clear after greasing.
