My driver`s door is getting a bit wobbly I`ve tried tightening up sthe screws but some of them are just turning in their sockets - I presume there are captive bolts or something in the woodwork. the hex slots in the screwheads are a bit mangled & there is some rust there.
Is it a simple job to replace whatever the screws fit into - bearing in mind that I have the engineering skills and dexterity of the average three toed sloth? Or any other suggestions. I am sure it is not the A post which has "gone" as the car is only 10 years old. It seems to be where the hinge fits onto the door that is loose.
I await the collective wisdom.

How is the hinge pin? They wear but can be replaced with new oversize pins. Heart of England sell the pins and give you a drill to resize the hinges. Trouble is you need the hinges off the car.
Does Gomog give a method? I think the screws are machine screws with captive thread inserts in the pillars. If they have loosened then it is a more awkward job sorting them out. Even drilling the screws out will be tough if they spin.

I had the same problem after 28 years of Moggie lifespan. I cannot do such things myself, so my Morgan specialist replaced the old ones by stainless steel new ones. Tightening did not help. Now they are rock solid again, but it was not cheap....!

If you can knock the pins out with the door shut without damaging the paintwork you could try swapping the top and bottom pin over.

The wear is likely to be different on top and bottom pins and sometimes does the job.

Or swop from passenger side to driver, as they receive much less wear

Which ones are turning, the ones in the pillar or the door? They are nuts and bolts on mine. I had to pull the trim back behind the door pillar to get at the nuts.

I didn't bother replacing pins on my Plus 8 but as stated here got behind to tighten the nuts. Oh inserted a small steel plate to spread the load. This will help if is just the bolts on the holes that are loose. Not of course if the pins are worn. At least the hinges won't come away. Fitting the upgraded door stays also steady the door.

I've just taken my hinges off as the slop was in the hinge pin. Mine's a '74 so probably different to yours. Bolts go through the A pillar and the door frame (oddly lowest bolt in the door is actually a woodscrew!). No captive nuts but a steel plate as reinforcement.

You won't be getting any oversized hinge pins from H of E as they are out of stock and factory is closed. Won't be available anytime soon, possibly next year as when the factory re-opens , hinge pins are low down on the priority list!
