Well, feeling a bit down today, our two years of planning & we should have departed just after midnight & be having breakfast in France right now Instead, Mrs M trudged off early this morning to graft for the NHS We put a lot of prep into our self organised tours making our own route books with POI's, and Monaco has been on the bucket list for some years I'm going to put these away now as it upsets me to keep seeing them on the shelf ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/04/30/20200429_130023_resized.jpg)

I also know the your feelings! We had planed to start a one week trip (with our 4/4) around middle an east Germany at last saturday. My wife is a keyworker in the German ""helthsystem" called "Krankenkasse". Actualy she needs a "nice" hollyday very much.... Also our trip to Danmark in june (also with the 4/4) -we booked a Holiday home- seems impossible. The rent for Holiday home was payd but we don´t get the money back. So perhaps a trip in september to Dresden ..........

Very impressed by the route books , perhaps of use to others as well in future years - we have all got to have something to look forward to.

That is such a shame Jon. We had the whole year planned - we've just missed a trip to our house in France, next week I should have been starting the Coast-Coast walk, then a second trip to France - all now cancelled. Our summer trip to the Confolens folk festival looks like it is now off as the French unveil their end of lockdown plans. Folk East in August is still on but the way things are going I think that is under threat. All paid for in advance of course so it is now a challenge of what do we get back...... At least Brittany Ferries have now announced that they are now planning to give cash refunds (in accordance with their own policy!) instead of time limited vouchers. Lets hope DFDS do the same.

I rely on Jan Nav. I will always remember we drove over the St Bernard pass which has a lot of road works and some traffic lights that were taking ages. She had the detailed Michelin mapped draped over the windscreen as she folded it to show the Swiss section of the route we were just starting on. The road workers around us were all smiling. A booklet might have been a better solution.

That sounded like a super holiday, like you our holiday has just been cancelled.
Not worth having regrets...hopefully these trips will still be "doable" in the future?

John ...way back in our optimistic youth my wife and I went to istanbul two-up on a 250 MZ with all our camping gear..... our 'relaxed' planning meant running out of petrol after 10 miles on the A1 and, as we forgot the map, my wife navigating from the pillion using the map of Europe in the back of her pocket diary ...... wasn't til Yugoslavia when the arguments got really frequent that we bought a map K

I was the only one with wife on the pillion. Navigating with a Chinese map was fun. We were on a tour organised by an Australian Chinese and staying in hotels. Our luggage was being carried on a support vehicle and we had a local guide at every stage plus a police officer (we think reasonably high ranking and taking advantage of a free holiday) with us because we had special permission to go into what were then forbidden areas for foreigners. The organiser expected us to stay in a group but we quickly set him right We bought a local map and once we knew our next stop and the road to take we travelled independently with the support vehicle following later to round up any possible breakdown or misadventure. A couple of times I had to ask directions on a country road and getting a local who spoke only the local dialect to understand my terrible Mandarin was a bit difficult but with the help of the map and good will we were set on the right road. I still have the now rather tattered map
