Check out this VIDEO of Jay Leno riding the X-Wedge one-off bike in 2008. Listen to Jay's comments at 3:25 and then ask yourself what did Morgan do wrong?  I agree - Jay comments "not much heat, not much vibration, runs like a water-cooled engine". I wish mine did!

Did you also notice Jay said something to the effect that "if you didn't know better you would think it was rubber mounted", implying that it was solid mounted to the frame! WOW!
I would love to know the fuel system for it and if it is like ours. Also, the difference in cubic inches should not make that much of a difference.
The black cylinders and valve cover might reduce the perceived heat a bit too.

Makes you wonder whether the relatively soft rubber mountings of the M3W engine actually contribute to the vibrations? Having just made a lifting bracket (in anticipation of a Bleazey job on the Centa) and recognising that the threadings for this are the top mount for bike installation leads one to wonder (as Andy did above) that if a brace could be conceived it could damp the engine's movement very effectively - there is a lot of mass flopping around quite a long way above the soft rubber mounts so the amplitude and force of the vibration is no surprise....

From the S&S engine installation manual.
ENGINE INSTALLATION
Due the unique engine mounting locations a frame designed for the X-Wedge engine must be used. The engine must be mounted using the four mounting points on the lower cases and with a top support between the cylinder heads that is tied into the frame. The top support brace must connect the 3/8”-16 tapped bolt holes located on top of each cylinder head above the intake port and 7/16” grade 8 bolts must be used in the lower mounts.
The engine will accept the primary and charging system stator for a 1999-’06 Harley-Davidson® big twin engine, or equivalent. Follow the manufactures instructions for installing the primary and stator to the engine.

A few years ago, when I was visiting the M3W assembly area at the factory, I saw a large box of metal brackets and asked what they were. I was told they were the engine lifting brackets that every S&S X-Wedge came fitted with from S&S and that these were going for scrap. I was given one and it has been used a few times now. I wish I had grabbed a few more.

I think the main reason for dropping the standard black finish cooling fins was because the sharp edges were polished off on the shiny version which better fitted the tighter regs. A great shame on an engine that particularly needs to dissipate heat. Possibly why Krazy Horse who acquired the rights to the JAP covers, kept the black versions to themselves and only allowed MMC to offer the shiny ones as an option.
Correct, the black engine fins were deemed too sharp for the Euro 4 regs as they were a danger to pedestrians...….. Hence the bright pack polished engine is now standard fit.
