This year, for the first time, I'd like to do maintenance and servicing on my own.
My Morgan is a 4/4 4-seater 1.598cc from 1981.
I tried to buy an oil filter and an air filter at a local dealer but he asked me for the
OEM numbers, otherwise he wouldn't find the right parts.
Does anybody here could help me?
I also like to change the spark plugs.
Maybe there are several plugs that would fit but I remeber that my classic
Range Rover ran really smooth only with one kind of plugs and other people
how owned the same car had made the same experience.
What do you think, does my Morgan have a favorite?

Is quite likely a ford kent crossflow engine

Ford Kent Crossflow engine
The 4/4 1600 was introduced in February 1968 fitted with a variety of Ford 1599 cc Kent engines of type 2737E (70 bhp), type 2737GT (95.5 bhp) and type 2265E (95.5 bhp) from 1971 and a Ford four-speed gearbox.

A total of 3513 were built by March 1982.

Ford fitted these to many cars of that era


Engines were used in Ford cortinas and Ford capris yo name a few!
To confirm the oil filter have a look at the sump and take the part number off of the oil filter to be sure.

Are there not part numbers on your existing oil & air filters? Otherwise can you find the info from the engine number?

I'm not sure if there is a part number for the original air filter. I've always run a K&N filter as they can be cleaned and reoiled and are generally as good as new when you have done it!

Oil filter- the original Ford part number is EFL500

Spark plugs - assuming you have a standard engine, then NGK BP6ES should be ok, if tuned I would suggest that you start at BP7ES

I do not even know where the air filter is located.
On the top of the cylinder head cover there is a
kind of silver metal "cap". On the front grille side
it's round, on top it's flat with huge letters "MORGAN",
on the windscreen side there is a short but quite large
tube, connected to a black "pot" which has a kind of
snorkel on it's side. Maybe the air filter is in there?
Unfortunalely I don't know how to post a picture here.

Bert, I looked at John Worrall`s book "Original Morgan" to find a pic of what may be an engine bay like yours, and from your description and the pic in the book, the air filter should be inside the black "pot" It seems there may be two different Ford engines that were fitted to Morgan 4/4`s as Rob posted, and it may be that the two different spark plug types that Arwyn suggests cover both versions...? While it seems wise to suggest it would be ideal to identify which engine you have from it`s numbers..? However being a Morgan there is ever the chance it may have been modified by any past owner..?

As for posting pics, the process can be frustrating to begin to attempt, as the logic involved seems illogical other than to those well used to the ways of the web, however it can be a slightly more logical process to post in the Morgan photo gallery, direct from your device, though the forum has size limitations, so perhaps best select a reduced size image from your device or photo programme.. To post a pic in the thread takes a little more determination/frustration to overcome but worth learning in time..Even I managed it with the help of Heinz and others..

The engine is the original one, I E7-A3427.
