What ho, everyone!
I have found myself perusing the classifieds of late, and happened upon Brands Hatch Morgan who are selling a 1998 supercharged 4/4! It looks nice with an upgraded walnut dash, clocks and a rather fetching green interior, but I'd be interested to know your collected thoughts on the engine - not something I've heard of before!

Jonnie

I have seen this car , both in the past (at le Mans Classic in 2008? where they stayed at the same hotel as we did ) and more recently at BHM (way before lockdown.

It is a neat and tidy car to look at certainly, I have not seen it up on a ramp and had a look underneath.

Sorry I cannot remember who did the engine work , but the installation is very neat and tidy and has obviously been done professionally , not an amateur bodge job. It looks like someone has spent quite a bit of money on it .

Regarding performance again I cannot comment, we overtook it in our +8 on the way from the hotel to the track at Le Mans fairly easily , but who knows if he was trying hard at the time , and I am not known for hanging about, so you cannot really draw any conclusion from that.

I believe Chas Windridge used to do these conversions

Is the top speed gearing limited? ....doesn't seem like much of a performance increase for the supercharger installation ..... perhaps acceleration was the aim ?

Chas Windridge also did do supercharger conversions as I drove one at Cranfield a few years ago , not this one pictured either , a plus 4 , it had a 2.3 litre engine and had a big shiny air pipe down the side of the engine and was putting out 250 bhp and the engine internals had been upgraded to cope with the power . Didn't buy it as the steering was very heavy , should have bought it though ! (I did meet Chas at a race event and he said he had done various upgrades to trads before he had to steady up a bit due to illness. woohoo

I would ask a lot of questions to Brands Hatch and if you get the right answers then book a test drive /put a small deposit down if they can't do a drive at present ! thinking

I'd be inclined to give Keith a ring at BHM and have a chat, he can be relied upon to give genuine knowledge of the car and could find that he works on it regularly wink

Keith is currently furloughed and working from home . You can still contact him via Sarah at BHM, he is indeed one the very best sources of knowledge of all things Morgan and can be relied upon to give helpful and cheerful answers.

BTW Jonnie , I am often down at BHM to help with photography of cars ( but not at the current time of course) so I would be happy to have a look over it in detail for you once we are allowed out to play once more.

It doesn't get better than that, I realised he was working from home and more than happy to be called on in an advisory capacity as I think Sarah posted something to this effect on their FB page, which is a remarkable service.

Good luck Jonnie

Wise words, everyone - thank you for your help and offers of assistance! Sadly our abilities to get 'out and about' have been kaiboshed for the moment, but I'd be very interested to go for a look when the world returns to 'the new normal'!
