When it was still a hot potato with the diesel gate VW had changed the current production of minibuses (T6? I don't know) and banned all manual transmissions that should have been installed, for exactly the reasons you describe, Alistair, not regarding torque coping but regarding emissions. I know because a friend ordered one with a manual gb which was confirmed but he got an auto in the end.

Of course you can always put the auto in sparts mode and play with the flappy paddles  I can do that with the Jag so I suppose one could do it with the PlusFour. It's not quite the same thing and takes a bit of getting accustomed too but it puts the challenge back into driving an auto, just makes it clutchless. I don't hear any F1 drivers asking for a manual box.

Coming up to a sharp bend or roundabout I can just about manage heel and toeing (size 9) for the change down on my Roadster despite narrow footwell. It doesn't always work out though, so a flappy paddle change with accurate, timely auto blip would be most welcome not to mention sound good.

If an auto tick your box, that's fine.
It would be interesting to have one of each Plus 4's on the track to see the difference in lap times, if any.

Dave, there's gonna be a big difference in lap times. When I had the AMG GTC last year for the weekend, it was the first time I drove such a modern car. In this case with double clutch. It shifts faster than the blink of an eye. It's almost a continuum. Still, I really like manual gearboxes for the fun it makes.

Yes the auto box should be far faster, but less fun.

I would still like to see the difference Heinz...…………...at places like Silverstone, CadwellPark, Shelsley Walsh, Nürburgring, and so on. I'm not a speed freak so It wouldn't sway me at all, I'm just curious.

I have an arp4 an drive most of the time in the city of Brussels ,i would love to have an auto box when i am blocked in the traffic.
