Given the amount of discussion we've had about MX-5 parts in Morgans, thought you might like to see that at least one other manufacturer is going down a similar route: http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=23746 G PS I 'borrowed' this from PH, so some of you might have seen it already

"...now has a 180bhp version (thanks to a tweaked ECU an a bespoke exhaust) of the 2.0-litre Ford-sourced Duratec that also serves in the Mazda MX-5..." Presumably, what's in the +4 SS?? No doubt with a certain amount of Yamaha input? Anyway, first paragraph: can't drive 3 cars at once? My insurance companies seem to think I can Cars look interesting...

There's no doubt that the Ford V6 which, like the G55 racer's, has been upgraded to a 3.7-litre V6 with 410bhp, is going to provide it with plenty of oomph (Ginetta talks of 0-60mph in 3.7secs, and a top speed of 185mph-plus), but what's less clear is exactly where it will fit in to the fast coupe market. Imagine this engine in a Roadster...

Presumably, what's in the +4 SS?? No doubt with a certain amount of Yamaha input? If it is a patch on the Lexus IS-F engine, also developed by Yamaha, it should be excellent.

I've just bought an MX5 as a spare car as my Morgan is about to be taken to bits. £500 has bought a 1990 Eunos Roadster with 12 months MOT and today brought the log book, so I was able to tax it.
It's been a bit of a culture shock to go from a 40(ish) year old Morgan to a 21 year old Mazda. The performance is pretty similar but the Mazda is much cheaper to fix and does rather more mpg. It also goes around corners with very little drama; the generally lousy roads make fast progress by Morgan a rather crashy process; the Mazda is less affected by potholes and bad patches.
My wife wants the Mazda sold quickly, so I don't think I'll get attached to it but I am already rather fonder of it than I thought I'd be.

I enjoyed my Mk1, apart from its rather low gearing (and rotting sills)...
Cheers,

Despite it's 'hairdresser' put downs I think the MX5 is quite an endearing bit of kit. Had a Mk1 too and used it as a daily driver for years.

I owned a white Mk1 in the very early years of production for the North American market (back when they only offered them in white, red and Smartie/Smurf blue). I bought mine from a Subaru dealer, who hadn't realised there were still very long waiting lists to purchase the MX-5 (or Miata as it was called in N.A.)
It was my first RWD sports car and I loved it.
