I think you've been rather kind in your summary of our Machiavellian incumbent. smile

BJ and his Government are between a Rock and a Hard Place.
Why?

The probability of an effective virus is low, mostly because the virus doesn't seem to result in the production of many antibodies, especially in the many many people who have probably had a mild infection. I say probably because they have never been tested. Why not test more? Because the virus doesn't result in the production of a large antibody load, so the tests are unreliable.

Let us assume that there will not be a viable vaccine. Society has to carry on and it must learn to live with this virus: it cannot continue locked down and isolated. The result, therefore, is that people will die, but the majority will not. The responsibility for sensible behaviour has to be given to the people: legislation cannot cover every responsibility.

But by giving the people the responsibility there will be an element that has become so dependent on authority telling them what to do that they will not be able to cope. IMHO this is the same element who were so terrified of leaving the EU Mother Ship that they built project fear. It should be no surprise that the Project Fear supporters have latched onto Covid 19 to re-sell their concept.

I shall be going for a drive on Wednesday, just for the fun of it, and will park somewhere to enjoy a flask of coffee and home made egg sandwiches. I will observe social distancing, not because I think it is important, nor because it is the law, but because I don't really like people. I do like cars. Tarka has run less than 1200 miles since November, this is not good enough at all.

Going forward, I take full responsibility for my actions and their consequences. I hope everyone here will do the same. I will not criticise others for their their actions, unless they try and stop me from doing something that is legal and my choice.

That's 1200 miles more than my 4/4 Peter!
I was aiming to fill the tank today, but other things have got in the way this morning.

Peter I checked my log of mpg & found I have done nearly the same as you. Just a tad under 1200 miles from 12/11/19.

Here in Wales things have not changed. A damn good decision. There are too many instances of the so called responsible public ignoring good lockdown practice. VE celebrations saw drunken fighting reported and a cavalier attitude. That was one reason for Wales staying put. Relying on the “great British public” to be sensible is a cop out for the Government. Come on, we know how they will react.
I miss a lot of things because of lockdown but am taking a safety first route.
When I do decide to go out in the Morgan it will be to low populated areas, of which we have many. There will be too many people trying the same so roads would be overly busy.
Golf? I am not in a big hurry to get out to play when the restrictions allow.
My Morgan mileage is easily lower than your 1200. No noggins but WhatsApp keeps contact ok.
Just to add that the aim to prevent overloading the NHS has worked. A big plus. That is the real plys to the Government’s handling of things. The virus is here for a significant time to come. How we treat victims to minimise deaths and long term side effects or develop a vaccine is important. Testing to monitor spread is needed to help manage and control it.

Government is 'damned' if you do etc.. Two choices; stay as we have been until an effective vaccine is found or ease the lockdown to give people milestones, as it were, to focus on and to give hope. The trouble is, any easing is subject to personal interpretation or abuse. I have been taking the Mog out for shopping picking up prescriptions etc so nothing much will change there. I will continue to be very cautious irrespective of what future regulations might be.

Well Morrisons are leading the way with the cheap fuel "Morrisons said for a typical 50-litre fill up, customers will save £4.50 compared to the current national average price of petrol.
In April, some filling stations around the country had been reportedly offering petrol at less than £1, but this is thought to be the first time a national chain has sold petrol throughout the UK below the threshold since February 2016." Full story from Auntie.

Our hatches remain battened down.

No real hardship as February weather has returned for a while. Had to huddle round the log burner last night.
