I've always thought the lack of proper glovebox was daft, after all, the piece of veneer covers the whole area anyway when they laminate it

I had the same thought about the somewhat pointless slot in the Series 2/Coupe dash. It seems a little bit like a small change could have made it so much more useful.

I enjoyed the cab program. Also quite impressed by the technology behind the vehicle. Who owns them, I have an idea it is Geely, but not certain. But at the price I think I'd rather have one than some SUVs...

When I worked at Llanelli Radiators car rad factory we made the radiators for the London Cabs. Three variants in copper/brass not aluminium. Not big volume, just a regular small rollove4 order. Same for Caterham, JCB, Hyster and a few others. We once had a Spitfire core block in for refurbishment as we had the knowledge and experience after making them as originals in the early years of the factory.

You just beat me to it Peter! Like Alistair I’ve always hung back when waiting for a fast black so that you get one of the new ones and was lucky enough to get the cabbie that had the second one to be delivered. He was a great enthusiast for it and was a mine of information, he said that LEVC is owned by Geely and the 3-cylinder 1500 cc engine is a Volvo engine and is 3-cylinders out of their standard 2-litre lump. So that is also the Geely link as they also own Volvo. He was delighted by the performance of the vehicle, he got about 70 miles per day out of the battery and then drove the vehicle using the engine to recharge. His daily mileage was only 120/130 miles which surprised me as it seemed low to me, so he said it was not worth recharging during the day as he worked straight through only stopping for a quick coffee. He said recharge was fairly slow, though you do see them recharging during the day in the car park in Cavendish Square. His last taxi was a diesel forerunner of the current model and had done over 800,000 miles when he sold it when his LEVC taxi came, he couldn’t get over the comfort and the driving experience of it. Personally I found the programme fascinating, though would have thought that McLaren would make a better subject for the programme especially as no robots are involved in the build and the cars are like Morgan - hand-built!

I too found the taxi programme fascinating. The constant references to the needs of an owner driver who might spend 12 hours a day in the driving seat was very telling. Shows what can be achieved with focus - and some lessons there for other manufacturers.
It was lovely to see such a huge investment in UK manufacturing coupled with a genuine pride in things too.

This is where I find the comments going around right now a bit stupid.
It is not as if we don't have any car manufacturing it's just that (almost) none of it is UK owned. For all of the bellyaching about the Chinese in the last few months due to CV19 people have very short memories on what other things they have done like Geely and the LVAC stuff. Is it their fault that they are efficient and making half the electronics on the planet when I cannot get a work-experience person with the slightest intent to better themselves in my office ?
I am just reminded of the Monty Python "what have the roman's done for us" moment and it if were not for the humour I would probably want to cry about the ignorance.
