Whether what he has done is good enough remains to be seen over the coming weeks but I’m not sure he could have done anything else given the huge short, medium and long term complexities that we all face.
Guidance will need to be interpreted and put into practice, which will inevitably mean further work and acceptance of responsibility by those with the necessary qualifications and experience to apply said guidance to the specifics of the workplace, home etc. The last thing any of us want is a group of policy makers and politicians developing the detailed ways of working, method statements, risk assessments etc that govern our daily lives.
IMHO one of the real problems with the approach thus far is that politicians and policy makers have too often reached into the spaces that should be occupied by those who are used to ‘doing’, including civil servants, hospital managers, NHS procurers, educators, businesses etc. Using military speak again, politicians and policy makers need to stay at the strategic outcome and constraints level and allow the professionals to deal with the operational and tactical details required to deliver those desired strategic outcomes.

Hear hear, let people use their initiative at a local level

I would concur with that. Especially the passing on of information. The politicians are too far down the political speak road to give clear details. They always seem to create a deniability dialogue.
Our Welsh First Minister is slightly better but a couple of his cohorts bloody useless.

Well I took a drive down to Felixstowe seafront & Felixstowe ferry.
A lot more folk about and a big police presence. I saw 5 police cars / vans.

Plenty of cyclist clearly in groups & golf players bunched together.

Well the neighbours and our shopping run this morning revealed normal traffic and footfall with visitors in evidence, a 911 with bikes on the roof is not our style down here a quick walk around the car park revealed around 20% foreign plates....I'll leave it there....

Richard,
we did one of our regular walks on Thursday & passed up a Felixstowe Ferry as a mid point. There is a great fresh fish shop there & I bought a nice dressed crab.
As I exited the shop there was only one other customer & no queue. But there was a driver asking the people served ahead of me where they could find an open café, which of course doesn't exist.

Today there was a queue of about 100 m long all spaced out c 2 m & the car park was full.
I'll go back on Tuesday for more crab & prawns for a seafood salad , by then hopefully the crowds are gone.
John

John,

Interesting your experiences and that fish shops sound great, as you know we have similar here and there is nothing quite like the fresh stuff.

The questioning customer is a worry, what else are they not listening to or understanding..

We can wait till Monday when it should be quieter - we can hardly move down here at the moment for breakdown or recovery trucks as well it's like the first frost of the year all over again grin2.

Stupid

Have a good weekend,
Richard

Richard, John,

the majority live in their bubble, not listening and incapable of understanding.
Sadly, Darwinian evolution no longer works, so those that 200 years ago wouldn't have survived now do so.

We stayed at home today, and will do tomorrow. The week ahead will be a bit quieter!

This is just nonsense in my experience, it's a minority who haven't obeyed the lockdown or social distancing. I've seen very little evidence of it.

Spot on Peter.

We have a well known second homeowner dickhead that has turned up in his personalised reg Bentley from London village today and I can tell you he will be barred from the pub when it opens and will receive zero service from the local tradesmen.

I genuinely think it is just a small minority who don't listen and would not even hunker down if a bomb was going off.

Most have observed the lock down very well here, it is people coming to Shropshire - for days out - that has p1ssed on the chips!!
