Ok thanks, I assume that moves the wheel closer to the dashboard, so are you replacing a standard part with a shorter home built part? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the spacers do the opposite: they move the steering wheel away from the dashboard. There are two reasons to do so: A) you have short arms, and as the seats can't move forward, you need the steering wheel to get closer to you. B) you are tall so have long legs, and want to rest the left leg while driving bending the knee high so you can "flat your foot". And you can't because the steering wheel is too close to the dashboard so you don't have room for the knee to come up. .... just that. This allows you the extra space necessary to bend your clutch leg on long journeys caused by the inevitable, annoying and well known Leg Nadge that builds over time. All round a worthwhile modifiction in my view.

For Bonesie, at 1.95m (6' 5" in old money) I am comfortable in our M3W mainly because we have a 50mm spacer behind the wheel...and we have met other tall people who seem successful by this means. This successful group does not include our 2.1m son who has no chance! …. in contemplating his eventual inheritance, he has thoughts on re-engineering the steering column location.....). Do recognise though that the floor mounted pedals do create some extra awkwardness and the driving position is certainly narrow.
Although not in Peter's target response group - we have had ours since early 2012 and having nursed it and ourselves through all the various trials and tribulations (n.b. we have always got home) we have no intention of parting company … however, not sure if I would buy new today - the EU4-led changes are not attractive and regulations to come may make matters worse - if you want one, I'd suggest you buy a well-sorted, well cared one from 2014-2016.
Some people have come to these from bikes and thus are used to the limitations in comfort and weather exposure in exchange for the raw motoring experience - we liken it to a rearranged bike and sidecar. We were not bikers but saw ours as a fun replacement for cat sailing which became too risky for worn knees. I too am 6ft 5" with quite long legs, so I have had a custom 75mm spacer made up.. could be hope for your son yet!

Has anyone found a steering wheel spacer for the 4-bolt Brooklands steering wheel?
I've seen it asked before here in multiple threads, but could not find an answer. Speak to Dan at Krazy Horse, he can get one made for you.

Sold mine a few years back to Andrew (ajsms999 no.0004 of the production run in 2011). It made no sense when I bought it, bought from the heart. It gave me a bad back and burnt my 2 year old daughters leg still has the scar! SWMBO insisted I get rid and buy something sensible.
All I can think of at the moment is I need one back in my life especially now as my new office has permanently relocated to the bottom of my garden! .

31,000 (s)miles in mine and loving it.
I did try to buy a newer one recently but Covid got in the way.

I dont know how you guys get on with M3Ws.
Id love to own one, love the styling etc. However, having sat in one recently there is just no way I could drive it. My knees were forcibly pressed up against the steering wheel ( because there is no room to spread your legs as they are in a 'tunnel' ) my feet bent back on the pedals and my back was too upright.
Im only 6 ft so not a ginormous beast by any stretch. Are they all like that ? Added to that they seem to be perpetually breaking down ! These factors maybe explain why there are so many low millage ones on the market ? After the magic wears off.
But, If I had the cash id probably get one and have it modified or my legs shortened by 12 inches.
I'm 6 ft and the wrong side of 17 stone but fit fine in my M3W with a 13" Moto Lita wheel, 25mm spacer and the pedals as far forward as they go. Once we're properly allowed out to play I'll be happy to meet up and let you have a go

Don't say that I had assumed my bulk would make it impossible. I know if I drove one I would be smitten.

Krazy Horse has them in several sizes, I've bought mine there for a Brooklands wheel.
