Thanks for feedback Roger. I think the ruling is that on dipped headlamps only the DRL's should be extinguished which makes sense. If you check out the schematic on the carbuildersolutions link it shows a trigger from dipped beam is required.

Hi Roger thanks for this article and I must admit that I have followed your lead and done exactly the same with my 1997 +4.
everything works just fine, I picked up the live feed from the heater fan fuse to the relay and tapped into the side lights to turn the DRL's off when side lights are on.

On going for a ride out today and filling up with petrol (£1 a litre), I decided to use the car in front at a set of traffic lights to check that all was working, and this is where I noticed that when I switch to side lights/on the speedo jumps up to 40mph and then falls back to zero ( as I was stationary). This is a mystery to me as the fuse for the fan supplies nothing extra and the speedo isn't involved at all. Have you had anything similar with your installation?

Wow that is weird. No I had nothing like that. So far mine has been very well behaved and pleased with the results.

I’m not familiar with your car but as you say I can’t see why it should do that, this is very simple wiring. Could it have had this feature even before you added the DRL’s….. maybe?

For now I’ve taken the power tap for my DRL’s from the wipers (connection I/D G44 on the chassis harness diagram) simply because its easily accessible within the engine bay. If there are any problems I will make a separate fused feed behind the dash later.

Just had a thought. May be try a fly back diode across the relay. Perhaps its producing an unwanted spike upsetting the speedo?

Agreed as previously suggested in thread here. All modern Morgan's have a note on the circuit diagrams for diode relays to be fitted. Unfortunately after market additions and kits don't always provide such.

I have ordered a relay with a diode and as soon as it arrives it will be fitted. An interesting glitch to an otherwise successful upgrade, the jumping speedo has only just happened with the upgrade so I don't think it is an old ongoing problem Roger,I will post the results as soon as I know.

Sorry re-open an old post but I am also looking at using switchback led's in my indicator unit to run Daylight running lights.
I'm puzzled about the need to use a relay though?
My understanding is the DRL part comes on with a 12V feed from the ignition switch, the indictors come on with the usual indicator connections and use the OE indicator relay.
Why would I need a another relay? Have I missed something?
Any advice would be welcome, thank you.

A relay enables the DRL supply to be cut when the lights are switched on.
