i would prefer just to back out the set screw, use a small drill to create a pocket in the shaft, and then locktite the screw.

i do like the one that looks more like the button on the parking brake lever. I'm just not spending any more on the car right now.

Any clues how to get the gearknob collar off? So far tried taping it and then using a cable tie to get leverage...
EDIT - that trick worked second go! Has to be tight as the collar holds the gearknob in the right position in my 2015 version...

There’s a small grubscrew which holds the knob it then unscrews - I found tape wrapped around the threaded portion of the mx5 gear lever which I removed to allow the new threaded gear knob to be screwed on

Thanks Mark. On mine the collar unscrewed that allowed the gearknob to unscrew - both from a tube with external threads either end (for collar and know respectively) and 3 grubscrews that pinched an inner separate plastic tube that was over the gear stick. Seemed a little Heath Robinson but it worked!
