Thank you everybody. It's been quite a slog for the last three months. It gets you in a place you dont want to be. Just reacting to what comes at you. My mobile phone has never rung so much. I can even remember my number now.........

I think its caught up with me...
I didn't have a good night last night and I'm well tired. The wine is helping though.

A huge weight has been lifted. That's the positive. How she avoided the virus is astonishing. She was made of iron and that's for sure.

Dave, My sincere condolences to you and your family.

I do have some understanding as my 95-year-old mother tested positive to Coronavirus on April 14th but has since been cleared.
My Mum has survived but I fully understand the concern and anguish you have endured if it's anything like what we have experienced.

Time now to reflect on the good times and recover.

My best wishes

Dear Dave, my deepest condolences. I only opened this thread this morning, that's why so late. It is such a grateful thing when the parents or one of them lives for such a long time as your Mother did. And a high age of the mother lets "us children" mourn just as deeply when it is time to say farewell. As others have said, besides the present time of mourning, there will also come a time to remember the beautiful moments. I wish you and your family much strength for the coming weeks.

Dave, sorry to hear of your loss, very hard for you and your family.

The following poem was read at my father's funeral at my mothers request and then many years later at hers. It still resonates with me.

Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Nothing has happened.

Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you,
and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.

Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
somewhere very near,
just round the corner.

All is well.
Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

Dave,
My condolences to you and loved ones.
Loosing one’s Mother, always hurts, whatever the age.
Cherish the good memories.
Regards,
Bert

Sincere condolences Dave. Losing someone is never easy.
Memories do, however, stay with you. I still get memories triggered by finding an item my mum or dad owned, going through old photos. Yesterday someone posted on facebook about where my dad worked. I replied to them with memories triggered by it. Good memories. I use many of his old tools for jobs on cars and woodwork. Again good memories.
Remember too that you will not be alone and family and friends will be there.
Take care,
