Hi All. It looks like I will end up for a week in France/Holland in July with my Aero 8 S4 (Tango). Is there anything I have/can do with the headlights?I remember with the old H4 lights you could get the triangle stickers to mask the lights for the wrong/right side side of driving. Is this possible for xenon lights? Thanks for some helpful thinking Rudolf

One option is simply not to worry about it. I drive a lot to the continent and have not done a thing about my headlights for a long time. Dipped lights in the UK are not very powerful and do not seem to bother European drivers (who have stronger bulbs I believe).

Get a set of standard strips. Fit as per Mini guidelines. Job done.

Oh and the lights on the S4 are darn powerful. Never worried in the S1, but in thd S4 you will blind oncoming drivers...

My last trip (series 3) thru France in May I must admit I didn't bother as no night driving was planned and arriving at Calais around 20:30 dipped lights were OK. However I did keep the set of stickons from the Mini in the car just in case a gendarme was nosy. Prior to that I have always used the round stickon but trying to find the right 'spot' on the lens was a bit hit and miss and just seemed to block the light rather than deflect it. What do the drivers to L-MC suggest?

I have the stick on convertors in their original packet which I always keep in the car in case but I haven't had to fit them. Any night driving I do on dips as others have said.
I rarely see continental drivers in the UK who bother, I'm not even sure it occurs to most of them there might be a problem. On the way to the station at 6:00 this morning I encountered a car with foreign plates not even bothering to adhere to our side of the road let alone adjust their headlights!

I understand that the French police are getting a bit hot on such things at the moment. (as well as speeding), so I would keep a set of mini convertors. To be honest, it is a case of 'being seen to have them' whether they actually do the job or not.

I found that the stick on deflectors worked ok. The positioning was pretty obvious from the instructions (though as Aeroman point out it may have required the mental agility to fit in a mirror image configuration). I'm sure it wasn't perfect, but it did prevent the oncoming carriageway being bathed in light when on dipped beam...
