I couldn't find the hole until I knew where it was. The article in GoMog says you won't find it. Here's a picture of mine. You can see the nipple and grease gun connected on the right, and a bit of the grease coming out of the hole on the left.

Having had the wheels off to paint the brake drums I thought I'd grease the axle as documented here. Found the little hole in the off side hub and cleared it with a 2mm drill. CXhecked that the nipple would pass grease and pumped three shots into the hub. Nothing came out the "vent" hole. I didn't want to put any more in in case it ended up in the drum! Could the grease have dried out after 46 years!. I note that someone has attemped to grease the hub recently (service at the dealer?) but having taken the nipple off there was little evidence that the grease had gone far (new was red colour old was grey). Should I leave well alone?

On the near side hub I couldn't find a "vent" hole at all no matter how much paint I removed. So I haven't put anything in there.

Just a case I always take the drums off when I grease.

I did mine when I rebuilt my axle. The side that I did all the work on and had recently regreased just needed a couple or so pumps before it popped out the hole on the opposite side, but the other side needed quite a few before I go anything out - didn't count, but I reckon 10+. I'm using 'red and tacky' so I kept pumping until the red stuff came through.

I had the drums off anyway, but nothing came through the seals

No doubt someone will pop along soon and say that I've done it all wrong, but had no problems so far

We have no idea when ours were last greased. I have a smaller grease gun and each side took a complete tube of grease before it came out the hole. Maybe 30 pumps. Guns are all different but I was definitely getting nervous before it came out of the hole!
