There are 3 and once drilled out that is it.

From the front, engine side, 24” inside and the middle one is 44” in from the front ( I would leave that one) and the third one is visible from the rear of the vehicle about 11” in.

I have Stage 1 and 2 with ECU mapped for Stage 2 and still get pinging with harder acceleration in third gear, not first or second gear. I’m thinking it’s the gas available to us locally, 93 octane no ETOH hard to come by.

Our experience with the G56 pipes (which by design have significant absorption material in them hence the girth) is that they alter the character of the noise rather than increasing the volume while freeing up the engine notably - the AR stage 1 pipes and the original pipes with baffles removed are simply open to get the flow and hence much noisier. If you want free flow without massive noise then recommend the G56 pipes...speak as happy user with no connection to G56.

thanks for the Details on Baffle locations Stephen.

Interesting data point Sportster. I wonder if a good test might be to try out some octane booster as a test?

There is a thread titled: Please help....Baffle Removal Procedure, lower down on this page in the forum that fully explains the procedure to remove the baffles.

When new my car used to get terrible pinking when accelerating. Sounded like someone pouring gravel on to a tin roof! Didn't make any difference what grade of fuel I used.

Under warranty my dealer remapped without any improvement. I then fitted a Kuryakin Air Intake but the car still pinked although it ran a wee bit better.

Finally upgraded to Stage One and pinking was eliminated and the car has always run much better both at standstill or accelerating.

I suffer from Tinnitus but don't find the Stage One exhausts any problem as the increased volume is a lower pitch. The air passing ones ears probably increases Tinnitus more than the exhaust note. This can be improved by wearing a hat with flaps, earplugs or beanie hat.

The stock exhausts are just SOOOO restrictive that cylinder temp build-up is too much for the engine to handle and pre-ignition is inevitable. Witness the glowing headers when the engine is left to idle for more than a few minutes. It is dangerously strangled in my view and it's a testament to the strength of the S&S that they haven't spat their conrods out the side of the castings before now... Any Stage X upgrade that removes those restrictions is a valid fix, and I for one would add a vote for the G56 exhausts as they remove all restrictions, yet have sufficient volume to silence effectively too.

Did you try the Stage 2 cams without the ecu mapping?

Interesting. Who's stage 1 did you install? Morgan factory?

For what its worth, mine has the cats and first two baffles removed, the third (rear) is intact and it has a Stealth intake. Otherwise stock pipes. No remapping. The car runs like a cool-headed champ throughout the RPM range and the sound is a deep, pleasing baritone. I've been thrilled with the result and the engine is a happy camper.
