Got the car back on the road yesterday. A huge thank you to Arwyn Williams who connected me with the shifter I needed as the original one came loose in my hand. Very different feel that will take a little getting used to, but it feels so much more solid than the old one. BTW, post from UK to US took just under 3 weeks. Of course, we get back home from our trip out to find that the water pump is leaking, and a noise from the left front on hard right turn leaves me to believe I may have a wheel bearing issue. Never a full moment! ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/05/31/IMG_20200531_105722.jpg)

Congratulations on fixing the gearbox.
One step forwards, two steps back. Hopefully, the parts you now need will be available locally to you.

Thanks. So far no one near me carries the water pump so that will be a day or two.

The rubber of the tyres can touch the chassis on full lock. There is even a wear plate on the chassis. That might be the noise.

I thought of that, but I wasn't at full lock. It's a down hill slightly off camber turn. I've got a little movement with the front end jacked up, but I read I GoMog that it might be a caster nut adjustment. Wondering if I should pull the hub off since the wheel is off, just to look around.

With the wheel off I grab the disk top and bottom and give it a wiggle. If I tighten the caster nut to where it just makes contact the wiggle stops. But then I have to loosen the nut a little to get the cotter pin on, and I'm back where I started.
Thoughts?

What sort of noise were you getting? My nearside front bearing started 'ticking/clicking' on corners (but only on one direction - I think it was right handers). Initially I managed to crimp up the nut and the noise went for a short while, but came back again. Ended up replacing the bearings - fairly easy job, and make sure you order by the serial numbers (listed on gomog) as you'll get them for a fraction of the cost from a bearing specialist. I've got the grease seal number somewhere too,

Just noticed that you're in CT. You're only 2.5 hours from Morgan Spares and half an hour from Quantum Mechanics. Quantum Mechanics specializes in gearboxes and differentials. Morgan Spares can handle anything for your car, parts or service.

Never a full moment! ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/05/31/IMG_20200531_105722.jpg) Thanks Paul for the kind words. I'll explain a little about the gear shifter: It's one that I modified from an aftermarket competition part about 18 months ago when I had a similar problem to Paul's. The part came from either Rix Engineering or Matt Lewis Racing, can't remember which! Instead of various plastic washers and plastic threaded parts there is a screwed housing containing a spherical bearing. There are two spanner flats to enable the housing to be tightened onto the gearbox As supplied it's far too long. So I shortened it in the lathe and threaded the top part Its also too thin and would look odd sticking though the gaiter. So I made up a top frollm a scrap piece of 1" stainless bar which was then tapped to match the thread I'd cut previously. I then cross drilled it and tapped it for locking screws and also cut a thread for the gear knob.(This is the part you can see sticking through the gaiter in Paul's photo. I heated the top with an oxy torch and bent it over. A quick polish with some emery tape to get rid of the tooling marks and then a buff of the polishing wheel. Did 2000 miles with no issues and it became surplus when I changed to a 5 speed box in Feb this year Arwyn
