I'd like to replace my original aluminum rear sprocket with the steel one. Does anyone know where I might buy one in the US ?

I would try one of the dealers. I got a replacement through the Morgan dealer in SF.

MMC will sell you a heavy steel rear sprocket for a fairly sizeable sum of money and it will last well. There is an alternative with the Supermax poly overlay, an American company. Information on www.supermax.net or you can email vyvyanross@yahoo.com Several M3W's have run for many miles successfully with these sprockets. There was another sprocket manufactured somewhere in Europe but I don't think they are currently available, so that is the off the shelf choice at the moment.

One other thought about rear sprocket replacement, Phil Bleazey does a belt drive to chain drive conversion. I think that, at the moment, it is more than a nuts and bolts job but it may be worth a look on his website. http://www.bleazey.co.uk/M3W.html#reason . It's always interesting to have a look at what Phil is up to anyway. If you do end up with a new steel sprocket from a Morgan dealer, don't dispose of the alloy one, I am sure it will come in handy for a chain or Supermax conversion at some point.

Morgan Spares ( https://morgan-spares.com/) will do the Supermax poly overlay (look in the three wheeler accessories section) for your sprocket and source the steel sprocket, I would give Linda a call to discuss options.

I have a used one, as I replaced it with a Supermax unit.
If going the Supermax route you can deal directly with Supermax and save some dollars.

Yes. The car had about 8500 miles on it when I bought it, and I'm not sure when it was fitted, so it has less than 8500 miles for sure. Keep in mind the steel sprocket is intended for use with the black center hub. With the silver hub I believe it would be too far inward (towards the tire). I changed to the Supermax one to reduce weight and to see if it made any difference to the annoying sound coming from the rear. It didn't as the sound is apparently coming from the bevel box only.

I wonder if anyone has experimented with hydraulic drive systems? Whilst it could be built, a hydraulic drive system compared to belt drive doesn’t offer many advantages; Hydraulic drive - High torque, low speed, heavy, expensive, issues with heat build up Belt drive - Low torque, high speed, lightweight, cheap, less issues with heat. The above is relative to each other but that is why hydraulic drive is used in construction equipment and belt drive is used in motorbikes etc. Following the motorbike theme, chain or shaft drive would be a more viable alternative to belt drive.
